"Alex- I have your Butterfree"

Backstory: I bought a copy of FireRed from a Disc Replay near my house. It was $20 and I’d been looking for this game for a LONG time, but was hesitant about buying one off eBay because of how many complaints I’ve read about receiving repros.When I came home and booted it up there was a save file with the name Alex. Alex was saved right before the Elite Four in the Indigo Plateau. I decided to check it out, not thinking I would find anything interesting. His Pokédex count was 20ish. When I opened his party up the only thing there was a level 85 Butterfree.At first, I figured this meant the rest of his party was transferred up and this was the one he had to leave behind. However, when I went to the PC his starter Charmander was right there in box one. Level 10. I started to realize this looked like some sort of Butterfree solo challenge.But he wasn’t the champion yet, he was saved right before the Elite Four. Had he given up? Lost interest? I decided to try running with it and seeing what sort of struggle he was having. His moveset was Giga Drain, Psychic, Thief, and Sleep Powder.Every battle was a breeze except for Blue- I realized after Lance that he forgot to stock Ethers and Elixirs. Blue’s Arcanine gave me a lot of trouble, but once that was down his Blastoise went down with one shot. This Butterfree was the solo champion of Kanto.Before starting a new save, I transferred him up to my copy of HeartGold. He has his Ribbon and grew to level 87 in those four battles.Alex, if you read this, good job.
