"Features that should have become series staples, but were dropped for the sake of "making each generation unique""
Title. I've compiled a list of features that should have become series staples after being introduced but somehow were dropped soon after for GF's bullshit reasoning, or are only implemented in some games but not others. These range from things that contribute to world-building, making the in-game world seem more realistic and alive, to features that enhance re-playability and extend the post-game. I also included suggestions for improvements to such features. These will be separated into categories and ranked from most to least important to bring back, in my opinion:WORLDBUILDING / IMMERSION:Following Pokémon and Ride Pokémon (with Dexit, there’s no reason why every single Pokémon available in a given game that is big enough and the appropriate body type shouldn’t be rideable / surfable / flyable with a unique model). Following Pokémon is optional / can be turned off.Seasons (lasting one week instead of one month)Naturally changing weather like rain, harsh sunlight, etc, in routes (should be expanded to apply to the entire overworld, including towns and cities)Time of the day, seasons AND weather affecting what wild Pokémon appear / their rarity. There should still be overworld obstacles that need Pokémon to be removed. The change I suggest is that they should be species specific, not something that needs to waste a move slot (that means every big enough water type can surf, every Pokémon with sharp claws can cut small bushes, every strong physical Pokémon can smash rocks, etc). Implement a “license” or “permit” tied to Gym badges if limiting game progression is a concern.Berry farming and unique tree designs for each Berry type. Having a single kind of "berry tree" that drops mixed berries is ridiculous and immersion breaking. It's also not convenient at all to people who need specific berries. Also, portable Berry planter.Small gender differences for Pokémon (these should probably be a bit more streamlined to reduce bloat and be more on the noticeable side, like the Butterfree stripe or Vileplume dots, and less like the ones that just have barely different sized horns and fangs)Apricorns, Apricorn Trees and Apricorn BallsWeekly and Daily Events like the Bug Catching Contest (could include online compatibility).Hidden Grottoes This is where you should be able to find more powerful than usual Pokémon and / or Pokémon with Hidden Abilities. They should be scattered in the overworld bushes, cave walls, etc and change every day.Swarms / OutbreaksHeadbutting trees / slathering honey on trees to encounter wild Pokémon.Horde Encounters / SOS Calls (implement sparingly, specific to some species)GAMEPLAY:Challenge Mode, Normal Mode and Beginner Mode.Battle Frontier.Trainer Rematches (Gym Leaders, E4, Champion and select route trainers)In-game special events and locations for mythical / DLC Pokémon instead of them just being handed to you in a Pokémon Center by an NPC.Mega Evolutions (re-balanced) Use Gigantamax designs as Mega Evolutions where possible.Z-Moves (re-balanced, more unique ones)Soaring with any Pokémon that is big enough and can fly. Should be optional, coexisting with traditional flying / fast travel.Pokémon Contests. Should have been fleshed out and expanded, with Contest stats and move effects becoming almost a metagame of its own, preferably making Pokémon that sucked at batting good at contests.Triple Battles, Rotation Battles and Inverse BattlesCUSTOMIZATION / AESTHETIC TOUCHES:Some sort of Secret Base (like Hoenn / Sinnoh) or a villa / room (like Sinnoh / Johto) that you can decorate with furniture, plushies, etc Should be able to be visited by other players online and locally.Box Wallpapers Could be expanded into actual “areas” that you can organize your Pokémon in based on type and habitat, kinda like Pokémon Ranch or the friend areas from old Mystery Dungeon games, and they walk around in there, play, etc. Obviously it would still include a simpler interface with little sprites to make organization easier.Pokéball Seals / release effect customizationPokéball throwing styles / battle posesTaking photos with your Team / Alola Photo ClubDid I miss anything? via /r/pokemon https://ift.tt/2DhZTtF
