"Is it worth purifying 15 Pokémon to get to Giovanni?"

#PokemonGO: I just completed the special research and started the new one, but I’m stuck, with the cost of stardust to purify a Pokémon, you have to spend 20-30k stardust just to complete step 2 of the special research. Seeing as I already have the legendary birds, there’s not a new mon waiting for me, and I’m not spending more stardust on learning a move over return, so I won’t be using the purified mons, so I’m thinking it’s not worth purifying all these Pokémon to get to Giovanni again, but was hoping to get more opinions.
