"Why is trading shinies so expensive ?"

#PokemonGO: Sometimes me or my bf are busy/have work or something on comm day so the other always makes sure to catch an extra shiny to trade for the one who missed out. We are best friends on pogo but it still boggles my mind that the stardust cost is so high for a basically worthless event shiny.Any idea why? I feel like if you have the nonshiny pokemon in your dex a shiny should not cost 10,000x more to trade. It can be more expensive, absolutely, but should not be on par with the cost of a legendary.Maybe this is a rant but wow this does not encourage fun community feelings.
