"I don't want any New Content from Niantic this Summer"
#PokemonGO: What I wish for is for Niantic to take a step back and put their resources into optimizing and making user friendly the dozen of features they have already put in the game.I am 100% certain they feel that the best way to drive user engagement and obtain new users is to put something new into the game. To get those headlines "Pokemon Go finally releases X" that grab attention and bring in the new users and bring back the old. That is a pretty common mindset and typically works well if you have a good foundation to work with. But I am also 110% sure that this strategy is maxing out. Thsi is because their game is not fundamentally sound due to neglect. At the expense of improving the quality/experience of their game, they have been adding new features into the game the past year at breakneck pace, but had relatively marginal growth year over year revenue growth (according to Senor Tower). It doesn't matter how cool the feature if the player doesn't enjoy the experience of using it. Even if the player loves the feature, they will eventually be worn down by the frustration of its bugs and unfriendly user experience. It has to be frustrating as what Niantic is best at is new ideas. I know we complain a lot here (especially late...and it is not all undeserved) but when we step back, ideas are not where Niantic lacks, it is their implementation and execution of said ideas.I feel the best course of action they could take the next 3-6 months is put primary focus into optimizing and making more user friendly all the features already in the game.Because I don't care for a few new pokemon. I do care about the white issues that somehow still an issue. I don't care about a new X system. I care that TMs are broken (though maybe Elite TMs will solve that?). I care that I have to sit through the entire ball catching sequence instead of just clicking through if I've caught it similar to Wizards Unite. I care about a ready button in private raids. I care about a more engaging gym system. I care about a smother, less bug filled game. I care that basic feature of the game that have been around for a long time randomly break and stay that was for weeks.I realize the teams at Niantic are likely different between Wizards Unite and Pokemon Go. And I know some of you have different experiences with WU. But from my experience, on average the game runs smoothly, few bugs, new content is implemented with the users experience proactively in mind and changes are consistently being made to make the gamer's experience more enjoyable. It is the sole reason I keep playing the game. It is an enjoyable experience even with the content sorely lacking compared to Pokemon Go. via /r/TheSilphRoad https://ift.tt/2GLbCTa
