"The ancient power nerf was bad for the long term health of the game"

#PokemonGO: Clickbaity title with some serious thought behind it. Yes, ancient power in its old format was broken, so too was ominous wind (but that's a topic for master league), however, the way that Niantic have "fixed" the problem is horrendous. Nerfing a recommended move on the the rank 1 pvpoke ultra league pokemon DURING the season and without any prior warning is not the way to go about fixing and is probably the worst way to go about it.Imagine the scenario; a player manages to scrimp and save their way to getting the rare candy required for powering up and double moving a GiratinaA, they play some matches with it and start to do quite well, then suddenly Niantic decides that their new pokemon is too powerful with its moves and they nerf it. Now instead of winning matches with their team, they're losing matches that they would've won before. This is incredibly disheartening and is a surefire way to make people regret their spending and increasing fomo.I wholeheartedly think that ancient power needed a nerf but this wasn't the right time. The time should have either been before the start of the season or after it. Not only was their way of fixing the problem ill timed but, personally, I say overkill. It turned a good move with a slim chance of a big buff into a terrible move with the same slim chance of a buff. A better approach would've been to halve the chance of the buff to 5%, or even 2.5%, but keeping the energy cost and damage the same. That way we would've had a fantastic coverage move with a very small chance of buff.In summary, Niantic changing the rules during their own tournament will lead to burn outs and fomo; why should I spend on something today that could get nerfed tomorrow?Apologies if this is terribly formatted, posted on mobileedit: Courtesy of SenseiEntei, another possible way of fixing would've been to halve the boost so instead of +2A & +2D, just a single boost to each via /r/TheSilphRoad https://ift.tt/39QwqVD
