"0.177.0 Update unplayable in old phones - still not a known issue"

#PokemonGO: Currently many old phones with Android 5 / 6 can not go past the niantic logo loading screen, making the game unplayable and althought many people have reported the issue over the past days Niantic still forced the update and has not acknowledge this issue. I just don't understand how can such an update be forced without being tested/fixed, making the game not accessible to a part of the player base.
