"Dynamax is kind of a joke in the anime"

So, before I get lambasted in the comments, hear me out instead of judging on the title alone—if you still like it, that's perfectly fine.So ya know how some people (myself included) already don't like the Dynamax gimmick in the games? Well imagine Dynamax feeling significantly more superfluous and nonsensical to a degree of being absolutely pointless in the grand scheme of the battle. Now, from what we've seen so far, Dynamax in the anime works as such:Regular attacks plink off Dynamaxed 'Mons—Dynamax is needed to combat DynamaxMax Moves can be dodged, especially if you're LeonMax Moves can also be destroyed with other Max Moves, especially by "unbeatable" CharizardsBut I feel like the largest offense seen by Dynamax in the anime is how a vast majority of the tension is removed. So far, they've only been shown as these spectacles done after two Pokémon duke it out at regular size for a little bit (mind you, the only battles they've shown have been 1v1). In other words, the battle's outcome is pretty much determined during the Dynamax segment—the part where they battle normally is just a waste of time. So when they Dynamax, you can put 2 and 2 together to realize that one of those 'Mons is going down in no later than 3 moves. Should they both survive, I'm just going to assume that they're going to do that cliche where both Pokémon stare at each other until one of them collapses. So, to summarize how Dynamax battles work in the anime thus far:Two opposing Pokémon battle normally for absolutely no reasonThose two Pokémon are then Dynamaxed after clashing for a bitOne of those Pokémon WILL go down in 3 turns or less, especially if Leon is involvedBefore I make a final conclusion, I wanted to list some things that we've yet to see done with Dynamax in the anime that could possibly make Dynamax battles seem even more contrived than they already are:A Dynamax battle where it's NOT just 1v1A double battle with DynamaxA Max Move being used on a normal-sized PokémonA normal-sized Pokémon (EXCLUDING Galar's legendary Pokémon) attempting to attack a Dynamaxed Pokémon againTwo non-Gigantamax Pokémon using Dynamax (I wanna see how they scale their size because I think the games really botched that detail up)A Dynamax battle where both Pokémon survive the 3 turnsTrying to throw a regular Pokéball at a wild Dynamaxed Pokémon (Team Rocket's Jessie made an "attempt," quotes because she completely missed by slamming the ball into the ground)To me, Dynamax is really contrived and poorly-executed in both the games and anime, but more so in the latter of the two. I really want to see a trainer use Dynamax to mow down a team, but I highly doubt that will happen. Dynamax just seems like a last-resort sort of thing like in the games, but it's significantly more scripted just to produce this faux sense of spectacle. Like, when the Dynamax gets whipped out in the anime, there's an invisible timer that says "this battle will end in 3 minutes or less," which really kills off the tension of wondering how long the battle could go on for. Like, compare Ash/Satoshi fighting Korrina's Mega Lucario for the SECOND time a couple weeks ago versus last week's episode where Leon crushes Raihan in a suit of Gigantamax-sized plot armor—knocked out in two turns btw. No respect.Alrighty, try not to bruise me too badly, Pokéredditors. via /r/pokemon https://ift.tt/327I3Y7
