"I remember my first time playing Sapphire as a kid and catching Kecleon"

It was my first Gen 3 game but it was in Japanese. I caught the first Kecleon after button mashing my way through the game. I couldn't understand the language, and it was even worse when I added Kecleon into my main team. I had no clue as to what was going on with this Kecleon thanks to its ability. I could see Kecleon was a normal type.Why were random moves suddenly becoming super effective midbattle? I had so many questions and it truly baffled me as a kid.
