"0.187.0 Teardown Follow Up - Digging Deeper (Buddy Walking Goals and Evolution Quests!)"
#PokemonGO: Hi again! We had planned on getting this out today, but then Niantic decided to flood us with updates. So I apologize if you are sick of us for a bit, but hopefully this is the last one today! As usual, we took a deeper look into the magical code of 0.187.0 and have some more exciting findings to report. Let's dive in!Orginal TeardownHighlightsBuddy Walking GoalsKM and Step requirements to unlock RewardsProgress and goals can be viewed with your buddy heartsEvolution QuestsQuests that will be required to be completed to evolve (and possibly change form) of MonsThis does include Megas in the code, but it's up to them to use it like thisSeveral quests can be linked to the evolution of a MonEvolution Quests will have a Name and Description, and then our regular quests within themQuest progress might be view-able from the Pokemon Info screen (as reported in the original teardown)The Narrator we found in 0.185.0 is MIA; we will miss youBuddy Walking GoalsSo we have no proof that this is tied to Mega Energy (in fact nothing in the code appears to link this feature to energy at all from what we can tell) but based on Niantic announcing this is a feature that's coming, we are going to assume (for now) this is what we are looking at. This also doesn't appear to be related to badges at all like we originally thought.Several new data structures were added to your buddy for km_walked and step_count (and specifically in your Buddy Walking Settings). Your buddy will store one of these new values (but not both at the same time by the looks of it). There will be a goal count for both KM and steps, and you will be able to view the goal and your progress towards the goal in the same section as your buddy hearts. Again, it looks like you can only make progress towards KM or Steps at one time but that might just be up until X steps, it becomes KMs. We'll have to see what this becomes. There are no signs of what the rewards might be however, which suggests this feature isn't fully complete, but it's hard to say.Evolution QuestsSo we dug up a lot more information about how the evolution quests will work. First off, as previously reported, it is a high-level quest type (like story, timed, daily coin, etc). These quests will have a name and description, but also a target to hit.The quests themselves appear to be added to the Game Master so we'll be able to start to confirm exactly what these look like when they start getting pushed. From what we can see so far, each Evolution Quest will contain:Name of the evolution questWhat type of quest it is (transfer, evolve, battle, throw, etc)What the quest goal is (there will be several)What high-level quest it is (which we think it will always be set to evolution quest, not sure how putting your daily coin quest into this will work haha)Then literally everything else there is that a quest contains (the quest name itself, any dialogue that goes with it, if it's a sponsored quest, etc). They probably won't use all of this information, it's just the standard Quest structure. But to this point, a new number was added to the basic quest structure. It's obfuscated of course, but it is most likely used by this new evolution quest system. The settings for these will also be added to the Game Master with two True/False toggles. We are assuming these are to enable the feature but we'll have to monitor the Game Master as these features go live to try to confirm that. But how do we know these new quests are for evolution specifically? Well, it's called EVOLUTION_QUEST in places in the code, so that was our first hint haha. Also the evolution data structure uses this as a possible requirement. But more specifically, these quests are added to the data structure of a Pokemon as well. Specifically:What the quest isWhat the description and goal of the quest isWhat the evolution isWhat the form isThese can be added several times, meaning several quests per Mon, several evolutions, several forms, etc.But what's interesting here (tin foil hat time) is there is a field for evolution AND form. They pushed the other Castform shinies today, as well as updates to all the Rotom assets. So... (bigger tin foil hat) linking these together, do we think that one of these evolution quests can be used as a requirement to evolve your Mon OR change its form? That's crazy talk. Fake news if I ever heard it. Moving on.Regardless of our wacky conspiracy theories, we do now know for sure there is an evolution requirement to evolve your Mon at the very least. The form could just be used if the mon is evolving into something with several forms (althrough that's not how it works now, but this could be how it works to evolve alternative forms). Also, one thing to keep in mind, Megas are part of the evolution data structure. So these quests could be used to temporarily evolve your Megas as well (in theory).F For NarratorIn addition to all the reaction emotions we found for Willow and his friend, they also added a sad emotion for Willow too. But more tragically, the Narrator we previously found in 0.185.0 has been removed. I will personally deeply miss this Narrator that we never got the chance to meet. I bet they were pretty awesome. I raise my glass to you, Narrator. May you find another child's video game one day.-PokeMiners via /r/TheSilphRoad https://ift.tt/2ZK6xEz
