"How I tried to figure out the population for each city in Kanto and Johto"
Hello! I’m writing a fanfic and needed population counts. And so I did my best to try and figure each one out. Keep in mine that these aren’t amazing numbers: it’s just what I got. They are mostly rounded btwPallet Town has 3000. It’s the smallest city so I just snatched the population from the smallest city in Japan; Utashini.Viridan City has 6370. In Japan it’s called Tokiwa City, tokiwa Fukushima has about 6370 people.Pewter City: Nibi City in Japan. Closest I could find is Niimi. However 30,000 is way too much for such a small town with no industry or anything, so I cut it down to a quarter at 7500Cerulean City. I couldn’t find anything about a Hanada City, so I just gave it a good 7000 like I did for PewterCeladon City. Tamamushi City: in Japan there is a Tamamushi Shrine in Nara which has 360,000 people. Seeing as it has a large department store I don’t think it’s too much of a stretch. But that’s too much for the poke world so I cut it to 36,000.Saffron City is the biggest city and clearly their Tokyo. Tong has 9.2 million, which I slapped down all the way to 92,000. You’ll see that’s still massive in this worldLavender City has the cemetery. Biggest cemetery in Japan is the Okunoin Cemetery in Koya, which has only 3000 people. But seeing as the power plant is right nearby I decided to boost its numbers. In America, 300,000 people work in hydroelectric dams which is what I think the power plant is since it’s by the water and you need surf. There are 80,000 dams in the US, 3% of which are electrified. I know dams aren’t the best way to compare but hey it’s something. 3% of 80,000 are 2400 plants. 300,000/2400 is 125 workers in one plant. So lavender has 3135 people. Could be a lot more tho considering it’s the only power plant in all of kanto and Johto.Vermillion city. Couldn’t find anything in a Kuching city but it is the biggest port in kanto. The port of Nagoya is the biggest port in Japan by Ise Bay. Ise has 123,000 people which imma change to 12,300.Fuschia City. I couldn’t find anything on a Sekichiku City but it does have a safari zone. Largest safari zone in Japan is the African Safari in Beppu, which has 122,000. So imma lower it to 12,200 to match poke world.Cinnabar Island. Can’t really find anything on it, but Aogashima is a small volcanic island. Only has 169 people which makes sense considering no one lives there but criminals and Blaine. That leaves kanto with a total population of 222,664. I could’ve made the bigger cities a lot bigger. But then the smaller cities would’ve been WAY too small to even be on a map in comparison. So I tried to keep it more even. Now, onto Johto!New bark city. Wakaba Town. I could go with Wakaba Ward with 151,000 people or Townes down like 1510 or something. But that seems iffy to me. New bark town is known for its windmills right? Some really big windmills in Japan are in Arisagawa which has 26,000 people. Toned down, 2,600 makes sense considering pallet had 3000.Cherry grove city. Yoshino city, yoshino in Nara has 6300 which makes sense to me.Violet City. Kikyo City. There is a Kikyo station in Hakodate, Hokkaido. Has 279,000 people so honestly a good 2790 makes sense. Not much there really other than a bell sprout tower, and there a a bigger tower in ecruteak anyway. You can change that to 27900 if you want.Azalea town. Based on Tsu Amie in Japan which has 27,900 people. Makes sense considering Kurt would realistically have a large poke ball industry going there.Goldenrod city...no clue. Kogane city and the biggest city in Johto. You could use the Tokyo estimate for it? Idk.Ecruteak City: bell sprout tower is based off large Buddhist towers such as Horyu-Hi in Ikaruga, which as 27,000 people. Makes sense to me as a major city.Mahogany City. Lake of Rage is likely based on Lake Biwa, which is in the Shiga Prefecture with 1.4 million. 14,000 considering the rocket base, without the rocket base maybe like a pewter level city, 7000?Blackthorn city. Fusube city. There is a Fusube in nishikan ward niigata which has 55000 people so 5500 makes sense, mostly dragon trainers.Olivine city. Lighthouse and biggest Johto port. Largest lighthouse in Japan is in Naka Ward Yokohama, 146,000 people which goes down to 14,600.Finally Cianwood city. We have tamba city, there is a Tanba with 65000 which goes down to 6500, mainly safari zone.Total population of 107,190!For a bonus I’ll do the orange islands. 24 islands but many are lifeless or just Pokémon: boring! Imma say each island has 200 people which goes to 4800. But imma add a major city at 10,000 for a good 14800Sevil islands too. Nine islands, wiki says there are 220 people. 7 populated ones. Let’s say each one has 220: that’s 1540. Then two nonpopulated ones, so I added 10 for each. So 1560 total.Hope you guys enjoyed :) via /r/pokemon https://ift.tt/3o7pQlu
