These cartridges are valuable and they are never going to be produced again. If you do a shoddy job maintaining them, you risk ruining them forever. It serves you badly, as you probably care for these cartridges yourself, and it does a disservice to anybody you might want to sell or leave them to eventually.I bought a copy of Emerald and the battery needed replacement. I googled some tutorials as I had never done it, and the tape method is the first thing that comes up. I didn’t want to do it because it felt like a hack job and I read everywhere that the tape would cave in much faster due to heat and the glue in it losing grip, so I looked up some soldering tutorials and bought the basic equipment.I got a small soldering iron, a pump and some wick to remove the solder, and some tabbed CR1616 batteries at about 20$ for the whole lot. I had no issues whatsoever de-soldering the old battery and soldering in the new one despite having zero previous experience.If you are currently thinking about replacing a battery in an old cartridge, please consider doing it properly instead of rushing it.
