"I met a little girl in a wheelchair playing pogo today."
#PokemonGO: So I was taking down the gym in my area earlier this morning; now i don't usually play around that time, but i just happened to see the gym's pokemon are all low on hearts, so I was like AHA A CHANCE, went and started fighting only to find someone else joining in. Looked around and saw a girl in a wheelchair, furiously tapping on her phone, and her mom pushing her. I was like "are you playing pokemon go, too?" and she was like, "yeah!" and got really excited. We chatted a bit and took the gym down, spun the gym and the stops around a couple times, and her mom mentioned how team yellow's always kicking her daughter out and she doesn't like this game very much because it upsets her daughter, which I get. it's not fun to spend a bunch of potions and revives to take down a gym, then get kicked out immediately. I was gonna let her have the gym if she was red, but it turns out we're both blue, so cool, I get to sit in too.I figured I'd use a couple berries on her pokemon because why the hell not, spread some joy and love, and then realized she was the same trainer that I keep seeing in the gym! She always puts in a Lucario instead of the typical defenders like chancy, blissy, etc, so it was really memorable. The first couple times I saw it, I was like "what the fuck are you doing, put in something tankier!"; but then as time went on i was like "oh! it's the lucario again!" which, honestly, kind of was nice, even when it did nothing to defend the gym, lol. There is nobody else on mystic that does that. Turns out that's her favorite pokemon because she used to have a dog.And I told them, yeah, there are a couple of people with multiple accounts around here (you'd know by name01, name02, name03, etc); and they always take the gym/defend it at the same time, so nobody else gets it. And I explained spoofing to her, it was like, "See the swings over there? Imagine you're in the middle of a circle standing at the gym, if you don't see anyone else playing pokemon go from here to those swings, and from here to the parking lot behind us, that means they're using a program that tricks the game and makes the game think they're here, when they're not."Then, she asks, "isn't that cheating? It doesn't seem fair."And you know what, Lucario girl, I agree. It isn't fair. I just didn't know how to delicately explain to a 7 year old that there are grown ass adults in our neighborhood who does thinks that taking the fun away from kids is in itself fun to them, especially on a game like pogo. I also don't know how to gently say "yeah, because they just want to fuck kids over, and they also don't care about anyone who isn't them."Anyway, I doubt the instinct spoofers/multiple account holders in my area will see this, or care; but the point is, if you're going to cheat, please cheat away from areas that only have one single gym within a reasonable walking distance. There are two gyms 5 minutes away by car if you go down the road towards the mall. There's another mall 15 minutes by car that has three gyms, and another gym in the plaza across from it. If you want to hoard all three gyms by the mall, please do so.It'd take you the same amount of time to teleport from the comfort of your home to the mall, but neither of those locations are 'accessible' for Lucario Girl and her mom, nor any reasonable other people who just want to play on their daily walk.I guess that's my rant. via /r/pokemongo https://ift.tt/3iTeoKI
