"Should gen 9 get rid of gym types or keep them?"
This may sound a tad confusing because types have been the main theme around each gym since the dawn of the franchise's existence, but I really think it doesn't need them anymore. Firstly, there aren't really a whole lot of ideas left for a lot of these different types that they could use. Outside of Dark and Fairy, I think they kinda used up the really good themes for types in particular. Secondly, I think the series at this point has kinda evolved (hehe) past that one mechanic of the game being the only one worth looking at. Maybe they should use this as an opportunity to maybe try new things with the theme gyms. For example, instead of a fire-type gym, maybe try a firefighter-themed gym where all the pokemon are strong AGAINST fire (ie, water, ground, rock, and flash fire abilities). Maybe have a gym that takes place in a mall and they introduce the various effects that held items have, have the daycare double as a gym where they use eviolites and baby pokemon, just do different things outside of just types. There's a lot of potential that could be explored and hell, it could even do a better job of merging the competitive and casual scene in a way that doesn't ruin one of the experiences completely (cough cough gen 8 level-up candies) and I think they should really use next generation to test this theory out. via /r/pokemon https://ift.tt/3j791GS
