"Which Generation is the Most Influential?"

This is NOT a question of your favorite generation, nor a question of what you think is the best generation. What I mean by this is a question about which generation has influenced the most people, either positively or negatively, which includes fans already familiar with Pokémon or people starting out.This can include a game mechanic that is so important (again, either positive or negative) to the franchise that future games will be much worse (or better) without. This can include some quality of life features either exclusive to a set of games within a generation or started there. This could include executive decisions that change how we, or how we're supposed to, think about the franchise going forward. This poll very much isn't exclusive to the main series. This is about everything Pokémon released during the span of each generation, so spin-offs, anime, TCG, merch, and the like are taken into account.For example. you can say Gen 3 is the most influential because of the massive overhaul behind the scenes that both added important mechanics like ability while at the same time being completely cut off from the previous two generations...which means remakes were necessary. You can say Gen 4 is the most influential because of the Physical/Special split. You can say Gen 6 is the most influential because Pokémon GO released during that time, which drastically boosted the player base and franchise awareness.For the purposes of the poll, I'm not including Gen 1 because... I mean come on: Gen 1 being influential goes without saying. I'm also excluding Gen 8 because, despite having quite a reputation within the Pokémon community and is worthy of discussion of being the most influential (mostly negative, but still), it's still the current generation and recency bias can and will alter the poll.
