"I think Dimond and Pearl are some of the worst Pokémon games."
Note I didn’t say Platinum, that game is pretty good. But I feel like if Diamond and Pearl came out today as a new generation with similar problems, then people will show it similar dislike as games like X and Y now face. The game painfully slow. Playing this game (or most Pokémon games) without speed up is such a chore and takes so long with the infamously slow hp bars to the incredibly slow surfing speed and battle taking as long as 20 seconds to start. The pacing of the game isn’t the best. It takes too long to go from the 2nd Gym to the 3rd gym, and then gyms 3-6 get completed in a relatively fast pace. The story is super start and stop with team Galactic doing nothing for a large part of the game and then suddenly they are a major threat.Team Galactic is the worst villain team at this point in the series. For the majority of the game, team Galactic just does random evil things that don’t make any sense when their plan is “destroy the universe”. They steal Pokémon and hijack a power plant for energy. It’s never explained why they need this energy, but hey they need to be in the game (okay it is I forgot it was used for the bombs). It’s never explained why they do most of the things they do in the early game. How does stealing an old guy’s Clefa further team Galactic’s goal of destroying the universe? How does stealing honey allow team galactic to use the powers of Dialga/Palkia? It doesn’t. It’s just busy work for the sake of busy work. When the bomb goes off at the lake, it comes out of no where because nothing is ever set up. You don’t know the lake spirits exist until they are already captured, the red chain is never explained, and the climax happens without you knowing anything. The events of the story just happen. It’s like a punchline without the set up. Despite the game having so much time to set up team Galactic, the game doesn’t. Team Galactic in the first half of the game is completely different than the second half of the game. Then after the lake spirits stop cyrus (the player character literally doesn’t matter at all in the plot except for releasing the lake spirits which Saturn allows you to do), then team Galactic just stops. Cyrus and the rest of the team walks away free and in the last part of the game, no one ever mentions them again.Only 151 Pokémon in the regional dex and they are balenced really badly. This leads to a lot of problems like a lack of fire types. Despite this there are 14 water type lines and most of those lines don’t get used by players, especially if they choose the water starter. This means that the fire elite 4 member only uses 2 fire types. And it’s not like his team is well designed because he just uses seemingly random Pokémon like Steelix that don’t complement his team well. If he used maybe Pokémon that worked well in the sun like chlorophyll Pokémon then it would be cool.I have more issues but those are the ones I want to highlight. I bet people are going to comment to say “oh but Platinum fixes these issues and makes the games fun”. But if you got this full priced game in 2006 for your freshly bought Nintendo DS, then what are you supposed to say? If this happened now then people would of been outraged. If Sword and Shield got a third version that fixed literally every issue with the games then everyone will say how greedy game freak is for selling us a rushed and incomplete game. But they did it here and people herald Gen 4 as the best Pokémon generation despite 2 years of it being Diamond and Pearl. We shouldn’t wait for a third version to complete a game because the “incomplete” versions are still sold at full price. If you disagree with me, then that is okay. However I fee like if you play up to the third gym in Diamond and Pearl without speed up, then you will see a lot more of the problems in the game then you might of previously. via /r/pokemon https://ift.tt/VQlzWew
