"Chloe/Koharu is the most boring female companion"
Before the Journey anime started, it was stated that Ash and Gou would be a duo; with Chloe/Koharu being more on the sidelines. Though, she appears in enough episodes to warrant being labeled a companion (has a character arc too). When she first appeared I loved her. She was unlike any other companion. There was sass and her reactions to Ash and Gou’s shenanigans were gold (literally in the 2nd episode she sidestepped a unconscious electrocuted Ash and continued on her way). But, as her character develops and becomes more interested in Pokémon, Chloe/Koharu loses her sass and mellows out. While this is ideal for characters maturing, this is more a demerit than anything.Chloe/Koharu doesn’t add anything to the group dynamic (more on that later), has so little agency in anything that she has to be dragged (literally at times) into confrontations, and at most of times is a awkward third wheel.Gou contrasts Ash not only in personality, but his goals. While Ash represents the battling aspect in Pokémon, Gou is the epitome of Pokémon Go; to capture Pokémon. While Ash responds instinctively, Gou looks at situations analytically.Between the two of them, Chloe/Koharu struggles to stand out from being the girl of the group. Always awkwardly to the side, the friend you forgot who’s there unless they speak up. She has such an incredibly plain personality now compared to Ash and Gou’s cartoony aspects. It’s like she was dropped from a Slice Of Life anime. Now, her journey is discovering what her Eevee wants to evolve into and to figure out what she wants to pursue in life. A three year long journey. With the most slow paced episodes of Journeys. She went from:Year 1: not caring about PokémonYear 2: kinda caring about PokémonYear 3: interested in PokémonNow Journeys is coming to an end and her Eevee probably isn’t gonna evolve as an allegory for something. Making those Eevee episodes wasted, since they could’ve been used for anything else (other cameos, etc.)Chloe/Koharu meeting Serena and Dawn were the only episodes I liked with her. Unfortunately, it’s not because of her, but because she’s meeting far more exciting characters.I even prefer Iris over her.I hate Iris. But, atleast she evokes something from me.If you were to remove her, nothing would change. Sadly. As I really enjoyed her character in the beginning. If you like Chloe/Koharu. I’m not saying you shouldn’t. More power to you. via /r/pokemon https://ift.tt/NShX2jW
