"Is it just me, or is Waterfall being an HM bothersome?"

TL;DR - Having two water HMs somewhat irks me because I don’t want to restrict one water type to two HMs, especially given most water types are either Phys or Spe attackers, not both. 6 spaces on a team leads to wonderful creativity and synergy, but it’s still a small number. So allow me to clarify, I don’t despise the mechanic or the idea of having two HMs of the same type. Obviously, this doesn’t apply to more recent games, but I replay older ones quite frequently. I’ve played them so many times, and used the same mons so many times, that I’m really stretching to use mons I haven’t used before, or at least team mixes I’ve never used before. One of my usual stipulations is not repeating types on a team, so Waterfall and Surf both being HMs kinda detracts from the ease of creating a unique combo for a team that has no repeat types. I know certain non-water types can learn Surf, but often the Pokémon using it is either 1) a physical attacker, 2) difficult to obtain/utilise, or 3) simply unavailable in the game. Having water types basically be the exclusive type able to learn waterfall also doesn’t help, cause at least I have the OPTION to delegate a non-water type to use Surf. Ultimately, I understand this is really a situational complaint unique to me and probably a small handful of others. It’s just something that has particularly made my Pokémon experience slightly more challenging and in some cases irritating. I suppose there are plenty of solutions to this though and plenty of avenues to navigate this challenge that end up actually making the experience even more fun with the added challenge of team building on your 50th playthrough of something. via /r/pokemon https://ift.tt/cb4z7eP
