"Scarlet/Violet Battle “Gimmick”Theory"
Although I personally don’t think each generation needs a new “gimmick” in competitive play, I think it is inevitable after the last few generations. My theory is that like Gems were a pre-cursor to Z-Moves, and Hidden Abilities breathed life into lower tier mons like Mega Evolutions (a weaker example for sure), the Calyrex-Ice and -Shadow rider forms were a tease at the Scarlet//Violet “ride” Pokémon tech.I think a good chunk of Pokémon will be deemed “ride” Pokémon (think Rapidash, Zebstrika), and another set the “rider” Pokémon (Lucario, Picachu probably), and they can be combined as needed. It is a smoother example of the not-Gen-9-specific popular “fusion” idea, and is already in place from a coding perspective with the Calyrex forms. Their abilities would simply be combined, and their stats could be calculated with percentages of each. The creativity of combining Pokémon like this is also needed in the VGC format, where usually a set of 8-12 Pokémon reign supreme, and Incineroar is on 80% of final teams. It won’t eliminate overused threats, but having a unique Ride/Rider Pokémon could swing the battle in your favor. Finally, it seems clear that both legendary Pokémon look rideable. It makes sense that this gimmick would be available with the box legends, and the typical third legendary may be a “rider”. It may be a stretch too, but if Sprigatito stays on four legs, Fuecoco evolves into a larger four-legged croc, and Quaxly becomes a larger floating duck, the three starter Pokémon could become rideable as well. We didn’t see a Gen 9 “rider” Pokémon in the trailer, but there are plenty of older Pokémon that could fit the bill.Transportation is also a fantastic example of how technology has advanced throughout time, which could tie into the established theories dealing with past/future themes.Let me know what you think! And what the best ride/rider combo may be! via /r/pokemon https://ift.tt/dLe0Oq8
