"A warning to anyone waiting for Pokemon Bank to become free before you start using it."
In order to transfer Pokemon from Virtual Console Gen 1/Gen 2 games or physical Gen 5 games to Pokemon Bank, you need Poke Transporter, which is actually an entirely seperate app from Bank itself. However, it's "hidden" on the 3DS eShop, and the only way to access it is from a "link" within the Pokemon Bank app, which sends you to the hidden eShop page for Poke Transporter. However, Pokemon Bank doesn't let you get past the title screen without an active subscription.... I think you see where this is going. I searched around the net, but I could find no way to download Poke Transporter without paying for a year of Pokemon Bank first. I don't think you'll be able to wait until Pokemon Bank becomes free, because that's not happening until the 3DS eShop shuts down, at which point Poke Transporter will no longer be available for download. So yeah, if you want to use Pokemon Bank to store or move around Pokemon from anything older than Gen 6, you're going to have to pay.Thankfully, Bank is only $5 for one year, a far more generous price than Pokemon Home's $20 a year ransom (which is entirely seperate from Nintendo Switch Online's own $20 yearly fee, so if you want both NSO and Home, that's $40 a year, and that's not even counting the overpriced Expansion Pack). So if you think there's an even 1% chance you would want to transfer any Pokemon from any of the 2D games to any of the 3D games, I'd suggest you just drop the five bucks now and get Poke Transporter while you can.By the way, one final note that's somewhat relevant, Poke Transporter is a one-way trip. Any Pokemon sent from the 2D games to Bank can only be sent to the 3D games afterwards. So if you were hoping to get all the Virtual Console Pokemon games and then use Bank to transfer Pokemon between games and complete the Pokedex, sorry, it doesn't work like that, I'm afraid. via /r/pokemon https://ift.tt/AjympRn
