"Did the DS versions of diamond and pearl have the same Pokedex restrictions as shining switch versions?"

Could you catch all 400+ Pokemon from the start in the DS version or was it the same as the switch version where the national Pokedex is unlocked at the end? And if it was changed what was the reason? I'm just curious which is the better experience. If all the Pokemon are available from the start maybe I'll just save the $60 and play the DS version via /r/pokemon https://ift.tt/cGEjiLS
