"14 surprising results about Gen II charge move analysis that you should know about"
#PokemonGO: With the Gen II update last week, there have been a lot of changes to charge moves and best move sets. I tried to find what the best move sets are now, but was surprised to find that current sites calculate best move sets only by DPS, whereas they completely omit energy efficiency and also crit rate. For that reason, I made a spread sheet for all charge moves, where I calculated the overall dps for quick move + charge moves including energy efficiency, crit rate: http://ift.tt/2lJdgem. The god tier moves are highlighted in light brown, S tier moves in yellow and A tier moves in red.I. Here is how the spread sheet works. It also takes a few more factors into account that have significant impact on charge move dps. It calculates the total DPS of a move set, byCalculating the Energy required to execute 1 charge moveCounting the damage produced by the quick moves to generate that energyAdding the quick move damage to the charge move damageCalculating the overall DPS by the move set by dividing the total time required to execute quick moves and 1 charge move by the total damage produced by both quick move and charge move. This creates the field DPS.Adding a penalty to charge moves with more than 100 damage, since large charge moves can only be executed 2-3 times during an entire battle, thus every 2nd or 3rd time, often 30% of the damage produced by a charge move did not even reach the opponent, since the opponent has less health than the damage the charge move would produce.Adding a penalty to long cool downs, since long cool downs , especially for 50 energy charge moves make it almost unable to dodge incoming attacks anymore, thus making your pokemon die faster, thus, not allowing it to do as much damage. 5. and 6. create the field True DPS. It also lets youEnter your own penalty for larger charge movesEnter your own quick move DPS and EPS to find the perfect charge move ranking for your specific quick move. Some charge moves work better with quick moves that produce more EPS, some with more DPSSee damage ratio, which displays how much of the damage of a move set is produced by the charge move and subsequently how much is produced by the quick moveII. This gives us 14 surprising results:Leaf blade is the absolutely uncontested best charge move. With an incredible energy efficiency through its 70 damage for only 33 energy, small cool down of 2.4s, high crit rate of 25%, Leaf Blade has made it the most powerful charge move of all!Only Charizard knows the best Dragon move, Dragon Claw. With the Gen II update, no dragon pokemon knows Dragon Claw anymore!Dazzling Gleam is among the top 25 strongest charge moves, Play Rough is now the strongest fairy type move.100 energy charge moves are not that strong anymore, only 5 of them made it into the top 15 .Petal Blizzard has gone from the 3rd best move in the game to only the 37th best. There is not a single Bug or Water charge move in the top 20.Charge moves now make up 68%-79% of total damage during a battle., up from formerly 58%-73%. All in all, charge moves have become 7% more important in comparison to pre-update!Drill run is the best ground move. However, no ground pokemon knows Drill run.Water moves have been heavily nerfed and are the weakest attack type now of allGrass and Electric type harbor the strongest charge moves in the game as of present.9. Drill run is the best ground move. However, no ground pokemon knows Drill run.The best ice move is now Avalanche. No Fight pokemon knows Focus Blast, the 2nd best Fighting charge move. Dynamic Punch is now the strongest Fight move and the 9th best move in the game. Close combat is not the best Fighting move, it is the worst with Cross Chop.Thunder and Thunder punch are now the weakest Electric move and among the top 10 of weakest charge moves. Wildcharge is now the best Electric move. The 3 god tier charge moves with the highest overall dps can be learned by the following max evolutionsLeaf BladeVictrebeelBellosomShadow BallCrowbatAlakazamMewtwoGengarWeezingWild ChargeArcanineRaikouRaichuStantlerThis brings us some interesting changes, itmakes Victrebeel a very potent Grass type prestiger, and Raichu, the only Electric Pokemon that knows the strongest Electric move, a very potent Electric attacker, due to their "not-so-elite" Stats and rather low CP.has catapulted Gengar to one of the most powerful attackers of the game, being the only attacker able to make use of its Stab bonus on the second best charge move Shadow Ball!strengthens Alakazam as an attacker, since Shadow Ball is only slightly weaker than Alakazam's strongest charge move, Future Sight. In other words, it gets harder for Alakazam to get a bad move set!III. Explanation with exampleLet's compare Petal Blizzard and Solar Beam to explain how this all works:Petal Blizzard has a dps of 42.31, much higher than Solar Beam's 36.37 DPS. That means, Petal Blizzard is much better than Solar Beam, right? Nope, Solar Beam does 180 damage for 100 energy, while Petal Blizzard only does 110 damage for 100 energy. Even though Petal Blizzard's cool down (2.6s) is much shorter than Solar Beam's cool down (4.9s), Solar Beam is much more energy efficient. For that reason, what matters is the overall dps done by a quick move to gain 100 energy plus the charge move. Let's calculate this for Petal Blizzard and Solar Beam with the current average EPS over all quick moves of 13.05 and the current average DPS over all quick moves of 10.5. Thus, it takes 100 energy/13.05 energy/s= 7.3 seconds to gain 100 energy doing 7.3s*10.5 dmg = 76.56 damage and for our two charge moves. This means:• Solar Beam: 7.3 seconds quick moves plus 3.9 solar beam takes 14.2 seconds in total to do 76.56 + 180 damage = 256.56 damage. 256.56 damage /12.2 seconds=21.02 DPS• Petal Blizzard: 7.3 seconds plus 2.6 seconds Petal Blizzard takes 9.9 seconds to do 76.56+ 110 = 186.56 damage. 186.56 damage /9.9 seconds=18.84 DPSSo, as you can see Solar Beam does 11.57% more damage than Petal Blizzard, even though Petal Blizzard has 16% more DPS than Solar Beam. That is why, Petal Blizzard is one of the worst Grass charge moves at the moment and Solar Beam is the second best grass charge move. However, energy efficiency is not everything. The most energy efficient move, Outrage, has a cool down of 3.9 seconds for a 50 energy and 110 damage charge move, which makes it very energy efficient, but it also make it very low dps. That´s why both DPS and Energy efficiency are important.IV. ConclusionTo sum it up, why is it better to have a more energy efficient charge move than a higher dps charge move? Because, a cost intensive charge move making 40 dps, which is only if it is only present 25% of the time, is worse than a charge move making 30 dps, 40% of the time. The cost effective charge move makes 20% more damage, even though it has 30% less dps, makes sense?V. A few more noteworthy thingsWhen looking for your perfect charge move, take into account STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus). Charge moves that have the same type as your pokemon get an additional damage bonus of 25%. If your move has STAB, its rank increases by 30 ranks. For instance, say you are about to evolve your Growlithe to Arcanine. Arcanine also knows Wild Charge, the 2nd best charge move. However, Wild Charge is electric. So, is it better for your Arcanine to learn Wild Charge, the 3rd best charge move or to learn Flame thrower the 32nd best charge move? It is better to learn Flame Thrower, because Flame thrower has STAB, since Arcanince is a Fire Pokemon. Thus, Flame Thrower has Stab and Wild Charge has not. For that reason, Flame Thrower will increase by 30 ranks from rank 32 to rank 2 and it is better than Wild charge with rank 3. However, Wild Charge would be a stronger charge move than Fireblast with rank 42, because with stab, Fireblast would only rise to rank 12, which is less than rank 3 of Wild Charge. via /r/pokemongo http://ift.tt/2lnz9O1
