"Game Bug Theory: All Snorlax are one boost level higher than shown in game"

#PokemonGO: Two users posted (first, second) how their respective Snorlax did not work with online IV calculators. I did the calculations in a spreadsheet to double check and replied. Most likely explanations were that either the game does an additional calculation that we don't know about or that the dust levels were really one higher than shown.Very significantly, both Snorlax had been boosted one level below the next dust level. What I mean is, you see 1300 dust displayed in game and the next boost would increase the cost to 1600. I assume many others are able to use online IV calculators with Snorlax else we would have seen this issue sooner.Unfortunately, I had no real proof and don't own a Snorlax myself to study the protobuf with. It turns out /u/Alatar1313 does. If you look at the protobuf file from the thread with understanding of the Inventory Pokemon server response then you can find Snorlax in there:Pokedex #: 143 CP: 1239 HP: 170 5: 170 Attack IV: 15 Defense IV: 0 Stamina IV: 15 CPM: 0x3effed72 I used this online tool to convert hex 0x3effed72 to float 0.499858. This matches the 0.4998584 CPM used at pokemon level 14.0 and dust level 1600. Let's do the HP calculation:HP = FLOOR[(base stamina + stamina iv) * CPM]170 = FLOOR[(320 + 0) * 0.4998584]170 = FLOOR[167.45243]The displayed CPM taken directly from the game is wrong. I'll spare you the longer CP calculation but it shows that CP is 1196 versus the correct 1239.Let's go with my assumption that the true CPM used by the game is one level higher. This would be 0.5087018 at pokemon level 14.5 and still dust level 1600. Likely, the Snorlax has never been boosted.170 = FLOOR[170.415103]1239 = FLOOR[1239.138401355]Math checks out!I checked through a few other pokemon and their displayed CP and HP do match the formulas with the CPM value they hold. It's not that everything uses the next level's CPM.From the casual player's point of view, I believe that Snorlax has an additional advantage over other pokemon in that it comes with one free dust boost, due to a game bug. Unproven if it's the only pokemon affected. via /r/TheSilphRoad http://ift.tt/2a6tKrj
