"The Global Nest Atlas: Join us in mapping the world's Pokemon nests! (Also announcing v2.0 of the Global Pokedex!) (And more access codes!)"
#PokemonGO: Morning travelers! We're incredibly excited today to get to share some news. Our community is growing quickly, and the Silph team has been working hard to move things forward on multiple fronts. The full Silph web app is not being announced today, but we are adding some major upgrades and a new community initiative today, so it's (finally) time for an official update!1. Announcing the 'Global Nest Atlas' InitiativeThis initiative will leverage our massive network to help the world identify and catalog Pokemon nests!Effective immediately, travelers can now report Nests via the web app! Simply click 'Submit Sighting' and follow the instructions from there. It's quick and easy, and feeds into the Global Pokedex automatically.Nest coordinates are now mapped/displayed in the Global Silph Pokedex under each species entry. We will soon add an Atlas so you can explore the map and see all species' local nests in your area!Data QualityOne strength of the Global Nest Atlas is that we are able to leverage a verification system in real time. We invite all travelers to 'confirm' or 'refute' local nests to strengthen the Atlas! What about PokeVision? While the tracker is non-functional in Pokemon GO, there's no denying that 3rd party real-time mapping sites are becoming ubiquitous. The Road does not have an official position regarding sites like PokeVision. In regards to the Global Nest Atlas, we don't care where your data comes from as long as it's accurate. :) PokeVision will not be around forever.Feel free to go pound the pavement and find nests while out and about - or feel free to add data from pre-compiled lists or other sources. But don't submit random sightings as nests. Nests are clear and obvious when you find one. Either:multiple uncommon species appear on your 'nearby' scanneror a rare mon frequently spawns multiple times there during the day!So let's use our network's reach to create a brilliantly useful map of the world's nests, travelers!2. The Global Silph Pokedex v2.0The Global Pokedex has also undergone major upgrades! We have added the data acquired from the protobuf decoding, as well as a major overhaul on move data. You'll now find the DPS with the Same-Type Attack Bonus alread factored in per species! We are currently removing the 'personal' sightings tracking as the Global Nest Atlas initiative is our focus for the moment, so every species will appear illuminated in the Pokedex main page! Species leaderboards are still active, however, and we are still collecting sighting report data.Other minor tweaks and fixes have been implemented as well, such as adapting the wild encounter CP distribution graphs to your Trainer level, allowing travelers over level 20 to submit sighting reports, etc.3. The Research SectionThe /research section of the Silph Road web app is always in a state of improvement. You can now find:Mobile-optimized tables for easier use in the field! (finally)More correct DPS sorting on the movelist tableClicking a move in the movelist table shows the species we've sighted with that moveAnd a few more things. :) We'll make future announcements when tools or calculators from the Silph Research group are added in this section. Consider this section a perpetual WIP, constantly being refined by on-going research and usability feedback!4. Development and OpsWe never imagined we'd have a quarter million visitors a day on the Silph Road's web app. But that is what's happening every day (and it's actually growing). We've had amazing people from the community volunteer time and expertise to help keep the Silph platform moving forward. We will soon be launching a dev site with dashboards for real-time monitoring and updates about our infrastructure - so for those technical travelers interested in the nuts and bolts of the Silph stack, stay tuned! If you're a technical traveler and would like to get involved with the Silph Road dev team, feel free to reach out to /u/dronpes via PM on reddit or on our Discord chat (link in the sidebar!) to learn more about how to contribute! (Especially those with experience using Ionic! :)5. New here and confused...We have so many new faces, there are sure to be a few confused about what the Silph Road is up to. The short of it is:The Silph Road is a group of GO enthusiasts building an in-person network for coordination and deeper gameplay. We want to build a better community. We have a web app in active development that will enable local coordination - but for now, the Silph Road web app offers useful tools like the Global Pokedex and Nest Atlas. We conduct coordinated research, and also foster an environment of analysis and study here on the subreddit - so you may notice our subreddit is a bit different than others on Reddit. Those uninterested in in-person coordination are welcome to hang out here and enjoy the discourse and research!Give this link a read for more information. And welcome!6. ACCESS CODES!We will be opening new access codes periodically over the coming days. Today we will start with 5,000 new access codes. Each day after this we will continue to drop new codes, as long as our resources can handle it. Until a few weeks ago, the Silph Road was expecting in-person trading to drop soon, and thus verified user accounts through a pic with a username. As trading appears a long ways off, verification for in-person trading is not required for the current web app, so no photo uploads are required to access the app!Our biggest limitation is the Google Maps API quota. If it weren't for this limitation, we would open the web app entirely. (If anyone knows anyone at Google that can lift our quota limitation, feel free to ...mention it to them... ;)Head to http://ift.tt/29wupRf to access the web app. When asked for a code, use:Current Code: SLOWPOKE0725Whew. Alright travelers, you made it through our update! We have a lot more coming from the web app front, so keep your eyes peeled for official updates! On a personal note, I want to commend this community for continuing to be friendly and helpful to the thousands of new travelers who find us every day. We know some questions are asked frequently. Feel free to point them to the #boot_camp channel or the sidebar search. But remember that we value courtesy here on the Road. We are a friendly community. It is, after all, a game!We may not be the largest GO community out there, but you can be damn sure the Silph Road is going to keep being the best one.Travel safe, friends.- The Executives - via /r/TheSilphRoad http://ift.tt/2alkSOl
