"How do lured-spawns work? Here's my data."
#PokemonGO: So inspired by this subreddit, I set out to answer a few questions Ive had for a while; "How often do pokemon spawn near lures? Does having multiple lures within looting range affect spawns? How often do higher ranking pokemon spawn near lures?"I will be posting a more in depth analysis soon with exact numbers and stats, but here is the brief(ish):What I did:-Spent 1 hour sitting in an area where I can reach 2 pokestops.-Placed 2 lures per pokestop (4 total, resetting them immediately after being removed).-Documented when pokemon spawned, which species, and which lure they spawned at.-After the 1 hour, I spent 30 more minutes at a single lure with no people nearby to compare against previous data.Note:-I found about every 30 min a random weedle would spawn outside the lures, but they arent documented in the stats on the lures.-There was ALWAYS ~10 people parked right beside me, and it was raining hard so cellular activity was at a minimum in this area.-I also documented every pokemon I caught and its CP, along with how many pokeballs it took to catch. This is for a seperate study on capture rates with a normal pokeball after the 0.31.0 update (while throwing curveballs).-Im basing what I call "common" and "uncommon" off of my area and what generally spawns here (prairie land, some water nearby). "Common" consists on Weedles, Pidgeys, and Rattatas (bet youve never heard thay before). "Uncommon" is everything else.STATS (2 Pokestops, 1 hour):-I saw (and caught) 38 pokemon within the first hour (total of 4 lures used on 2 pokestops).-Without fail, a new pokemon spawned every 3 minutes per lure (2 lures = 2 pokemon/3 minutes).-These pokemon were within a wide range of CPs and I couldnt see any pattern there.-From the 36 pokemon there were 9 Weedles, 9 Rattatas, 8 Pidgeys, 2 Paras', 2 Zubats, 1 Venonat, 1 Ghastly, 1 Parasect, 1 Pidgeotto, 1 Kakuna, and 1 Drowzee.-Thats 26 "common", and 10 "uncommon" pokemon.-All pokemon spawning within this 3 minute timer were appearing within the lure's circle drawn on the ground.-2 Weedles spawned exactly 30 minutes apart from eachother well out of the bounds of the lures, so I dont count those as part of my lure spawns.-Whenever a lure would end, it would always end on the 10th 3-minute timer, and nothing would spawn during that timer (this means 9 pokemon are guaranteed per lure).STATS (1 Pokestop, 30 min):-Same as before, pokemon spawned exactly 3 minutes apart.-I let the pokemon sit there for at least 3 min, not catching them, to see if it affected spawns, but it didnt delay the 3 minute timer, pokemon just stacked up. Note that they do despawn very quickly, but I wasnt documenting despawn times (will test that soon).EDIT:-I ran this test again today, this time tracking despawns and it appears all lured despawns happen exactly 3 minutes after spawning in. I am not sure why my spawns were different yesterday, but I had a ton of network issues because of the severe lightning and storms, so the game wasnt updating nearly as frequently.-I caught 9 pokemon, all were "common".RESULTS:-With an average of 10 people around, 1 pokemon was guaranteed to spawn every 3 minutes on the dot. This proved true while I was alone as well.-There was an average of 2.5 "uncommon" pokemon spawning per lure placed. No "uncommon" pokemon were found while alone.-Being able to reach 2 lured pokestops in one spot DID NOT increase the number of pokemon spawned per lure. I received the same number of pokemon per lure as when I was alone.-All pokemon spawned by the lure spawn within the lure's circle on the ground.-Pokemon spawned were all species' Ive seen in the wild around my city, none were new to my pokedex or "rare".-Being around 10 people, and being alone made no difference in the number of pokemon spawning, and the type of pokemon spawning. The only difference I saw was that I didnt get any "uncommon" pokemon while alone.-Whenever a lure ran out, so did the pokemon.-Despawn times appeared to be much shorter for pokemon in the lure vs. in the wild. Do not have solid proof, but just you wait.... Im comin back with more results shortly.Thats it (for now)!Hope you all enjoyed reading and learned a thing or two. Im not saying this is definitely how the game works, however I feel confident enough with my research to have answered my questions. If anyone could test this in a really crowded area with lures, thatd be dope. Thanks all! via /r/TheSilphRoad http://ift.tt/2avUsGA
