"Meta-Analysis: Omastar and Kabutops"

#PokemonGO: Been using these two Pokemon a lot lately, so I thought I'd give my input...Omastar and Kabutops are two, relatively rare, fossil Pokemon cousins that are both have Water / Rock typing. They seem to mostly spawn at beaches with a few minor exceptions here and there. Because of their low spawn frequency, though, it may be difficult to find the candy to power them up. However, most of their roles don't require them to be powered up.BaseOmastarKabutopsAttack180190Defense202190Stamina140120Quick MovesWater GunFury CutterMud ShotMud ShotCharge MovesAncient PowerAncient PowerHydro PumpStone EdgeRock SlideWater PulseSimilarities: Where both of these two shine is, well pretty obvious, training! Water / Rock typing gives 0.64 (correct me if I'm wrong) resistance to fire attacks. With half or less than half the CP of Arcanine and Flareon, both of these Pokemon can easily get up to 1000 prestige per training. Generally, Omastar is the better choice due to her better stamina and defense, as CP calculation is weighted in attack. There isn't much of a difference in damage per second when comparing Omastar's Water Gun + Hydro Pump and Kabutop's Mud Shot + Stone Edge. Both of these Pokemon work very well, so you can use either of them, whichever one you happen to have.Differences: There's a more interesting discussion for differences. At first glance, you may see that Omastar is more defensive while Kabutops is more offensive. On defense, Omastar's Water Gun + Rock Slide set performs decently in gyms. Her typing and rock move hinders popular attackers like Dragonite, but her typing leaves him highly vulnerable to grass type attackers like Venusaur, Victreebel, and Exeggutor. In an area with a lack of grass Pokemon, Omastar can prove to be a difficult barrier to incoming attackers. Electric Pokemon in this meta as of now aren't any threat. In most cases, though, Vaporeon and Poliwrath perform much better, with the former's high CP being a psychological deterrent and the latter possessing the best defensive move in the game, Bubble. From what I've written so far, it seems like Omastar pretty much does everything better than Kabutops. However, Kabutops has one special niche that probably isn't very well known. It can actually be an excellent Lapras counter! Its typing resists ice attacks to 0.8 damage, and it has a very good moveset too. Mud Shot as a quick attack does neutral damage to Lapras, but its charge attack Stone Edge does a whopping amount of damage to Lapras. Spark-Discharge Magneton only ranks second in terms of DPS including resistance, with Arcanine 3rd. Omastar can somewhat be used as an attacker versus Lapras, but Water Gun is not very effective, Mud Shot's pretty weak without STAB and high base attack, and Rock Slide isn't a great offensive move either. You're better off using Magneton or Arcanine if you don't have a Kabutops.Tl;dr Both Pokemon are excellent prestige builders against fire types due to Water / Rock typing. Omastar can serve a defensive niche in grass-Pokemon-lacking areas, while Kabutops is a Lapras destroyer. via /r/TheSilphRoad http://ift.tt/2cfTCmn
