"[Discussion] Gym stagnation should be solved by rewarding attackers, not by penalising defenders."

#PokemonGO: I know this goes against most beliefs on this subreddit but I still want to share my view on how to end gym stagnation. I have seen countless posts/comments stating that gym stagnation should be solved by prestige decaying, kicking out players after X days or by resetting gyms. I completely disagree with these options. The whole point of gyms is to construct a great defence with the best squads our team can gather and hold them for as long as possible. A game should never penalise players for doing a task well.Gym stagnation should be solved by rewarding players who do a good job at destroying enemy gyms, it shouldn't be solved by harming teams who are good at keeping them. However, right now, there is no incentive on taking down high level gyms. If you take down a lvl 10 gym (even with good dodging and good match ups) you spend a ridiculous amount of potions and revives and likely over an hour and in return you get 10 coins (1/15th of an incubator) and an almost insignificant amount of XP (catching pokemons would probably earn you a lot more while giving you stardust). So, if you want players to attack gyms, give them rewards for doing so.I suggest one of the following, a combination or even all of these (not necessarily in these amounts):100 stardust (same as catching a pidgey) per 1000 prestige dropped (5000 stardust for taking down a lvl 10 gym)1 coin per 1000 prestige dropped (50 coins for taking down a lvl 10 gym)100 XP per pokemon defeated and 300 XP when a battle is won (instead of the 50/150 that we have at this moment)some candy for the pokemon that entered the battle (suggested by /u/Swooptriad)items such as potions and revives with increasing rarity depending on the amount of prestige taken (suggested by /u/va_wanderer) or 2-3 random healing items everytime the battle won notification is displayed (suggested by /u/AnonPokeTrainer)I know some of these values may seem too overpowered but these are just references. Just keep in mind that if I got 5000 stardust (less than two power ups at lvl 25+) by taking down a lvl 10 gym, I would be doing it all day.EDIT: Formatting. Added some suggestions from comments.EDIT2: There are some concerns that this could be exploited by cheaters with several accounts who could bubblestrat a gym all the way up and then bring it all the way down for easy rewards. Even though this type of behaviour should be easily identified by Niantic and players banned accordingly (it's pretty obvious if a gym goes from lvl 1 to 10 in a few minutes and keeps switching between two accounts), /u/KingClam2 noted that it would be better to scale rewards with the CP/lvl of the pokemon defeated. This way defeating a 2000+ stacked lvl 10 gym would give great awards but a bubblestrated lvl 10 gym with only a cp 20 horsea would give you almost nothing.TL DR: title via /r/pokemongo http://ift.tt/2dKevWV
