"Quantitative gym defender rankings (including type) V2"

#PokemonGO: These are my quantitative gym defender rankings that include type considerations to present a more complete picture as to which Pokémon make life more difficult for the attacker. Since the last time I posted these (see original post below line break), I have taken into account all the constructive critism (thanks for that) and have improved the rankings. In particular I used a survey to gain a better understanding of the common attackers used against different types (see here: http://ift.tt/2ewR8xz). The updated rankings take into account a wider range of attackers; the main difference being Dragonite as a common attacker is more completely incorporated. Keep in mind these rankings are based on the attackers people are likely to pick; so water types are going to be evaluated more on how they perform against grass and electric attackers for example. The full rankings for every evolved pokemon are below:Pokémon, Gym defender QuotientLapras: 27.4Snorlax: 25.2Slowbro: 15.9Poliwrath: 15.6Hypno: 14.9Dewgong: 14.4Tentacruel: 13.0Exeggutor: 12.5Vaporeon: 12.3Dragonite: 11.8Venusaur: 11.5Gyarados: 11.3Muk: 11.1Golduck: 10.0Clefable: 9.9Machamp: 9.6Kangaskhan: 8.8Blastoise: 8.2Wigglytuff: 8.1Mr. Mime: 8.1Nidoqueen: 8.1Vileplume: 7.7Golem: 7.5Arcanine: 7.5Cloyster: 7.2Alakazam: 7.2Weezing: 6.9Rhydon: 6.9Nidoking: 6.7Victreebel: 6.3Tauros: 6.2Pidgeot: 6.1Seaking: 5.8Aerodactyl: 5.6Flareon: 5.5Hitmonchan: 5.5Pinsir: 5.5Starmie: 5.3Ninetails: 5.1Omastar: 5.1Charizard: 5.0Scyther: 4.7Hitmonlee: 4.7Golbat: 4.5Porygon: 4.3Dodrio: 4.3Marowak: 4.2Gengar: 4.1Mr Mime: 4.1Arbok: 4.0Persian: 3.9Jolteon: 3.9Rapidash: 3.9Fearow: 3.8Chansey: 3.8Magmar: 3.5Electrode: 3.4Venomoth: 3.3Lickitung: 3.1Electabuzz: 3.1Kingler: 2.8Magneton: 2.7Primeape: 2.7Raichu: 2.7Sedra: 2.7Sandslash: 2.6Parasect: 2.5Tangela: 2.3Kabutops: 2.2Jynx: 2.2Raticate: 1.9Beedrill: 1.8Butterfree: 1.7Dugtrio: 1.5Onix: 1.1EDIT: I had the type of Mr Mime as purely Psychic hence some inflation, and I spotted a typo in my spreadsheet; the result was I accidently tripled one of the battle times! The combination of these two errors resulted in the spurious position of Mr Mime. I've crudely corrected it, but in the next update I'll more comprehensively deal with Mr Mime's unique typeMajor changes since last time:- Lapras overtakes snorlax to slither into 1st place- Dewgong nerfed significantly but still strong- Gyarados buffed; it actually performs okay against grass types, and the double weakness against electric isn't devastating because electric types are so weak.- Dual poison types nerfed; I've removed match ups that would have any defender face something it resists.- Poliwrath buffed. Change represents taking into account more grass type attackers, Poliwrath holds its own extremely well and is capable of obtaining an amazing moveset. If anyone has any questions about why specific Pokémon rank where, I'll be happy to answer. Feel free to request rankings of Pokémon not listed. Also I'd appreciate more critic so I can keep improving these rankings.Original post from previous thread:This is my attempt to form my own gym defender rankings. The methodology is based on 'a defender is only as strong as its weakest link'; i.e these rankings measure pokemon up against the most likely attackers. The likely attackers are determined on a combination of type (advantages) and rarity of the Pokémon; if a Pokémon is not easily exploited by type the assumption is it will be attacked by vaporeon. These rankings were created by running battle simulations of the gym defenders against their common opposition. This measures pokemon that have the same level/IVs and assumes both a good attack moveset and good defense moveset. Note these rankings only determine how effective these defenders are against potential attackers; 'gym creep' and obtaining the highest position is not considered. Both attacker HP destroyed and time to do it are considered in these calculations. A pokemon that wastes time is assumed to be undesirable to fight as is one that wastes a lot of attacker HP. I will release the full methodology when I have perfected these rankings and added all the pokemon. For now I have only looked at pokemon that appear on the http://ift.tt/2b2GWg5 list. If anyone has any requests for defence quotations of other Pokémon I'd be happy to take them.Keep in mind these are still a work in progress, some of these results may surprise you however keep in mind the point of these is to pit pokemon against likely attackers. Pokémon rarely seem in gyms are more likely to have an attacker just use vaporeon; and we measure against that. via /r/TheSilphRoad http://ift.tt/2euZOXP
