"On courtesy and competition"

#PokemonGO: Took a few days off from Pokémon out of sheer frustration and a friend got me into Ingress since I like to walk anyways. (If you've never tried it, and you're at all 'serious' about Pokémon Go, you really need to play it for about 30 minutes - you'll find all your local wild spawn points for PoGo fairly quickly and easily. But I digress.) After playing that and coming back to PoGo, I am much more strategically minded. When the new gym rules went into effect (and I still had beaucoup potions from the Halloween event), I tore down every level 10 enemy gym I could and put a doink in it just to leave a calling card. When those gyms would be retaken, I would leave them alone as long as all (or all but one) of the new inhabitants were of lower level than me (currently 31, was 30 for months). I just didn't wanna be slapping level 17s around, and after taking a break, I am more of that mind than ever. One thing I hope no one who frequents PoGo boards like this one forgets is that the vast majority of players ARE casual. I will sometimes help my friend's daughter (who is 8) play, by killing gyms and putting in a squib so she can kill me and win. She has four friends in her peer group she plays with alot, but they only play MAYBE an hour or two a day, if that. None of them are higher than level 15, most are about level 12. And they've been playing since last summer. (One of my major frustrations was hers - Pokestop lockout killed a big part of her game, and an 8 year old is hard to reason with.)And it's not just little kids - gym competition revs up during evening rush hour, when working folks spend their hour or less a night on the game. I'll kill a gym at a major off-ramp nearby, leave it empty, and watch it fill as people get off the highway :)I guess my point is perspective - don't lose it. The player base is MOSTLY casual, and I don't want to run off the casual players. A little courtesy can enhance the competition - basically I've called a personal truce on anyone 5 levels or more lower than me, in the hopes that they will stick around long enough to become real competition for me :) via /r/TheSilphRoad http://ift.tt/2gFl6Eu
