"I may have realised the real reason behind Hoenn's water problem."

A few weeks back, me and a friend were discussing Dexnav and chain fishing, and we decided to hop on Serebii to see if there was anything of interest worth catching in the water, and it was after I saw the encounters did I realise one of the biggest problems with Hoenn's water that I never see mentioned. Now for the longest time, I've never seen a problem with Hoenn's water, partially because Hoenn is my favourite region, meaning I have a habit of ignoring the bad things in favour of the good things. You're probably screaming at your screens right now 'There's just too much water!', ironically or unironically, and to tell the truth, that's only a part of the problem. It is true that Hoenn has a little too much water. Even Kanto, the region with possibly the second most amount of surfing required, pales in comparison to Hoenn. Just the surf between Petalburg -> Dewford -> Slateport is already equal to, or more than the surf between Fuchsia -> Cinnabar -> Pallet, and that's not including the whole part of Hoenn after reaching Lilycove. But there's actually much more than it seems. Another problem with the water routes is the diversity in Pokémon, or lack of. Nearly every water route in Hoenn has four main Pokémon. Wingull, Pelipper, Tentacool and Tentacruel. Now when you have to deal with the same Pokémon on two routes, it's not too bad, but when it's the entire last quarter of the game it's monotonous and boring. Also, speaking of those Pokémon. Every single one of them get Supersonic. Then there's the fact that surfing is always on water tiles, and if you don't have any repels, expect an awful lot of encounters. And seen as the only way to destroy any of the wild encounters consistently is to have an overlevelled Pokémon or an Electric type, traversing Hoenn's water is tedious. And then there's the trainers. While the trainers aren't too common, the fact that every single one of them uses Water types only adds to the boringness. But there's one last thing that utterly makes Hoenn's water routes too much. There's not many places to stop and heal/swap Pokémon/buy things. There's only three towns past Mossdeep, and only one of them is accessible straight away. Sootopolis requires Dive, Evergrande requires Waterfall and only Pacifidlog only requires Surf. The worst part is that Pacifidlog doesn't have a Pokémart, and neither does the entrance to Victory Road, making either travelling back to Mossdeep or using Dive and going to Sootopolis the only option. So it's not just that there's too much water, there's also not much variety, both in scenery and battles, and there's very few stops to stop and and do much with. via /r/pokemon http://ift.tt/2gzOwDk
