"Local gym has disappeared after update. Story from a "forsaken-rural"."

#PokemonGO: Interested in hearing any thoughts but especially other forsaken rurals (you know, those of us relying on one pokestop in the whole town-rurals).So the only gym in my rural vicinity has vanished and been replaced with a pokestop. As a Pokémon player in an undisclosed forsaken middle-eastern country my only solace was a spot roughly 45 mins away that consisted of a pokegym & 2 pokestops. However after the recent update all that remains in the area is one measly pokestop.Has this happened before and how do I interpret this?
