"Niantic fucked up, but NOT by rolling out this new tracker"

#PokemonGO: Their vision for the game appears to be that most Pokemon spawns work more similarly to "Tall Grass" from the original games i.e. you walk around in it and sometimes Pokemon spawn and you pick where to walk around based on what Pokemon you wantIn light of this, the new tracker is good: they don't want you to be able to track most things, like in the main games (where tracking-style features are rare like Island Search or PokeRadar or whatever the thing in the Gen III remakes was called)The fuckups instead were:Launching with people being able to track everything. This set an expectation for the gameplay which was unhealthy for the game long-term, which left them with the choice to either let that stand or bite the bullet and piss everyone off by taking away their convenience. They've taken the latter optionNot providing enough Pokemon in rural areas. The new tracker is okay in cities for two reasons: We have plenty of Pokestops, and our spawn density is high enough that just wandering spawns lots of stuff.Making us need to catch about a billion of something to make it useful. To their credit, the buddy system really helps with this one.I mean, think about it. If the way the game worked at launch was that walking around spawned things near you, would anyone be mad that "the tracker didn't notify me of this dragonite that just spawned next to me!"? And would anyone really be posting "Niantic, make things exist when they're out of my spawn range!"? No. You'd just be mad that things weren't spawning near you.Which is fair, but it's a separate complaint to "why can't I know that if I walk to that specific area it'll spawn me a Dragonite?". Like, imagine if the main games worked like that all the time. It'd kind of ruin the adventure, you know?tl;dr pretend the areas that aren't around PokeStops are tall grass rather than terrain with Pokemon pre-spawned on it, then complain about the fact that there aren't enough spawns rather than the fact that you have no way to find out about spawns outside your spawn radius.EDIT: also complain about lack of Pokestops. Shit's fucked. via /r/pokemongo http://ift.tt/2gdwIuT
