"*Spoilers* SM is the First Time I Feel I'VE Had Character Development in a Pokemon Game"

Anyone who's played SM knows that as you play the game, you get dialogue choices that ultimately don't change anything, but do allow reactions from other characters. At the start of the game, I was making full use of those snarky responses. No, I don't remember you guys who I saw less than an hour ago. Nope, even though you asked me earlier, I still don't remember you. Hau, that was a joke? It wasn't funny. And so on.Or if I could antagonize the other characters in some other way, I'd do it. Yeah, I'll just leave you guys at the dock - I'm going Pokemon hunting. Plot? Nah, I'd rather go every other way I possibly can until I run into an inevitable roadblock. "Get out." No! I'd sniff your bed if it weren't the one important bed my character won't sniff! But as the story went on, I found myself getting attached to the characters. After the battle with Plumella, I felt bad about antagonizing Grunts A and B and wanted to apologize next time I saw them. From Aether Paradise Part II until the battle with possessed Lusamine, exploring didn't feel appropriate any longer. And even after that, I couldn't bear to give the snarky responses anymore, at least when they sounded mean.I actually managed to get in character this time around. Just like the protagonist, I came in as an outsider, not necessarily taking everything seriously. By the end, I cared about the group, and all of their individual struggles. By allowing snarky responses, the game actually allows you, the player, to decide how the protagonist responds to their situation. And that brings more depth to them than any protagonist from before, who is only told how they respond to things.Anyone else have a similar response/other stories to share? via /r/pokemon http://ift.tt/2glokcO
