"u/Professor_Kukui's spreadsheet is wrong. Several smaller mistakes lead to wrong outputs, especially for defending move rankings."
#PokemonGO: First of all i would like to say "Hello dear TheSilphraod travelers".@TRAINER TIPS Nick: Please read the bottom note ;-)I hope all this texting works out like i intended it too, since this is my first post on reddit, please be lenient with me :-).Back to the relevant stuff:After some time studiing u/Professor_Kukui's spreadsheet, i found some mistakes in it, which lead to not fully correct results. First of all i gonna explain which errors i mean so everyone could come to an conclusion if i think right or wrong:The Mistakes:1.) Combat duration The first and kinda obvious mistake is the calculation of the Pokemons Damage on 100s. u/Professor_Kukui's calculates it in this way: He calculates the dps of the fast move and calculates how often the Pokemon has to use the fastmove to unlock the special move. Then he calculates the dmg of this many fastattacks + one special attack and calls this "weave damage". He also calculates how long one weave takes. Untill here everything is correct. Now comes the flaw of u/Professor_Kukui's. He then looks how often the weave lenght fits into 100s rounded to an integer and calculates the remaining time with fast Attacks, but this isnt correct. For example, if a pokemon uses his last special Attak at second 99, and the other one would use it at second 105, the first one would benefit from this kind of calculations. If the combat takes just 5 more seconds (which is legitimit, cause combats take different times) this would prefer the second one and could lead to different rankings if the damage is close. In my opinion the correct way to calculate and rank the damage would be to not round the weavenumber in 100s to an integer. This gives a more reliable result.2.) Energy Loss The second mistake in his calculations is the Energy lost for fullbar specialattacks. u/Professor_Kukui's thinks it in this way: If a Pokemon with a fullbar specialattack gets to the point where the next fastmove fully charges the specialattack, the energy gained from this last attack might be partly lost, cause the energy cap of Pokemons is at 100 Energy. Ongoing he says this is not the case for specialattacks which do not have fullbar moves. This way of thinking is correct in the case of attacking Pokemon, althought in praxis, if you are dodging attacks, my experience is that if i wait for the enemy to use his special move to minimize damage taken, i also often come to the energy cap with not fullbar specials. For defenders althought, it is different. What he does not take into account is, that defenders dont have a 100 energy cap, defenders can collect energy until 200. So for defenders, energy isnt lost, also for fullbar special attacks. Conclusion:If you correct both of this errors, especially the defending moveset rankings change a bit.Another thing with u/Professor_Kukui's spreadsheet is the calculation of Gym Offense, Gym Defense and Dual Ability. Even if this gives an approximate overview about the strenght of all Pokemon, it is just a simple multiplication of some Stats, which has not really something to do with the calculations ingame. The right way to rank Pokemon should be this way: Calcualte the DPS of the Pokemon using fast + specialmove (or only fast if its better) and calculating how long the Pokemon would survive against an average attacker/defender (We call it Durability) The multiplicate the DPS * Durability, and you get the DMG until faint for each Pokemon. This is a better way to compare the Pokemons strenght and it also cooperates the defense of a Pokemon.End-Notes:Since i wanted to have a sheet to view several things about all the Pokemon, i took the time to create a new, in my opinion correct one. The full version also includes excact IV calculation, the possibility to input your own Pokemon and compare them to each other. It also gives you the way to view which Pokemon is the best attacker against one specific opponent.I would like to share the basic spreadsheet with this great community, i hope this might help some of you! (In the Puplic Update Version only the TAB Move_Sets_Sorted is useable) Spreadsheet@TRAINER TIPS Nick: Hey Nick, i would like to hand you out the full version of my spreadsheet for your good work on your channel! I really love your vids and me and my girlfriend are watching each of your uploads. Feel free to contact me or leave a comment if you are interested :-)EDIT: minor text fixes via /r/TheSilphRoad http://ift.tt/2gk54za
