"Some number of my 24-hour cruise in the Safari Zone"

#PokemonGO: BackgroundI was on a 24-hour cruise from Turku, Finland to Stockholm, Sweden and back. Though it was work, I had quite a lot of time to play Pokemon Go. In Finland it's a well known fact that the Incense trick works very well aboard these cruise boats. So I had 3 Incenses saved up for the trip. The tripWhat I didn't know that there was absolutely no need to use Incense to get spawn. Apart from a few hours further away from land (where there were no spawns) the spawn rate was about 50-80 spawns/hours. The biggest "problem" was that the cruise ship sailed at a speed where it was impossible to catch everything as when you were catching one Pokemon, god knows how many sailed over the horizon. And at times we were moving above the speed limit for spawns. The best part was that for almost the whole trip, there was no biome. So, the spawns were pulled from the whole Pokedex! I thought I was coming well prepared with just over 600 Pokeballs (roughly 200 of each type), but it didn't take long to realize I would run out if I kept catching everything. So I started cherry picking only the Pokemon I actually wanted, leaving a sea of Pidgeys and Rattatas to drown in the icy water. And I still ended up buying 100 Pokeballs in order to preserve some Greats and Ultras. When I realized I was going to be in Safari Zone for the next 24 hours I started making notes of all the species I saw in Sightings, what actually spawned and what I caught. Next time I will be better prepared and make a more thorough study. But here are some numbers I was able to gather on the fly. The numbersTotal catches: ~350Pokeballs used: ~550Throws/catch: 1.57 Pokemon species spawned/caught: 78Additional species seen in Sightings: 12Total number of species encountered: 90 Species I had enough candy to evolve: 31New species obtainable by evolution: 18 In other words, if I had started a new account before the cruise I would have 96 Pokemon species added to the Pokedex (78 caught + 18 evolved) with an additional 12 shadows I would have seen. It's worth noting that all the 12 species only seen in Sightings were right on my path, it was only the ship's speed and the update intervals that made them not spawn. I'm still bummed out that the Tangela didn't spawn (they are super rare here). Some notesIt was interesting to note that the only unevolved Pokemon (with evolutions) I didn't even see in Sightings was Grimer, all other unevolved I caught at least one of.I was able to catch (among the more common ones) the following rares/evolved forms: Persian, Poliwrath, Rapidash, Tentacruel, Seaking, Scyther Pinsir, Onix, Jynx, Mr. Mime, Dragonair, Gloom and Weepingbell. These are the rares I only saw in Sightings: Primeape, Aerodactyl, Hitmonchan, Seadra, Venomoth, Cloyster, Magmar, Electabuzz, Starmie, Slowbro, Tangela, Machoke. So, if you ever happen to be in Turku and want to embark on a Pokemon catching cruise, book a cruise to Stockholm and back. There are also shorter 12-hour cruises to Maarianhamina which will give you the same experience. The cruises cost next to nothing, maybe 10-15€, so it's well worth it. And if you do it during the summer you can sit outside and enjoy on of the most stunning archipelagos in the world ;) But if you do, max out your bag space and stock up on as many balls as you possibly can. You will have no problem using all of them! TL;DRI took a 24-hour cruise and was getting spawns from the whole pokedex. I caught 78 different Pokemon and collected enough candy to evolve 18 more, a total of 96 different Pokemon. Furthermore, I saw 12 more species in Sightings bringing the grand total for 24 hours to 108 Pokemon. via /r/TheSilphRoad http://ift.tt/2kx9lOj
