"XP System: Broken or Not?"
#PokemonGO: IMO the XP system is broken. The amount of XP you have to gain at the higher levels is just a little ridiculous. I understand that, just like in the main games (or any video game with an XP system, for that matter), the XP you need to gain goes up for each level. But let me explain.First, at some of the levels in the teens and 20s, the XP necessary to gain a level doubles from one level to the next (I.e. if one level requires 100k, the next level requires 200k). I don't think I've ever seen a video game where that is the case, and it can discourage people from playing the game at all.Second, there's no extra way to gain XP at level 35 compared to what you can do at level 5. Each Pokemon you catch nets you the same amount of XP. Each gym battle is still based on the ratio of your Poke's CP vs. your opponent's CP. There's nothing you can do to gain XP more quickly.I think the easy fix would be to change how XP from catching Pokemon is calculated. That 2800 CP Snorlax should get you more XP than a 10 CP Pidgey. My first idea would be to base the XP gained on the CP of the Pokemon you caught. As you get to a higher level, you're able to catch higher-CP Pokemon, thus you're able to gain XP faster. It could also be based on the level of the Pokemon (i.e. If you catch a level 25 Pokemon, you earn 25 times a certain base rate). My second thought would be to gain XP based on the catch rate of the Pokemon. Higher CP Pokemon are often harder to catch. This would also make it more worthwhile to catch that Pidgeotto or Raticate. A 200-CP Pidgeotto is more difficult to catch than a 200-CP Pidgey. Reward players for catching evolved Pokemon (they should also give more candy for evolved Mons, but that's a different discussion). In the main games, the XP required for a Pokemon to level up went up after each level, but you were able to gain more XP by battling more powerful Pokemon. Imagine how difficult it would have been to power a Poke up to level 100 if you gained the same XP from battling the Elite Four as you did battling a level 2 Pidgey in Pallet Town.At the end of the day, I think players should be rewarded with more XP for accomplishing a more difficult task. I'd love to hear other players' opinions on whether the system needs to be changed and, if so, how you would change it. via /r/TheSilphRoad http://ift.tt/2iSkPLf
