"Current Gym state and my observations/issues"
#PokemonGO: First off, yes I know these issues get brought up a lot, but I’d like to put in my two cents. And maybe, just maybe Niantic might browse through this sub and if they see the same posts, over and over again, they might do something about it.Quick info about me. I’m level 35 and I play with my gf that just hit 30. Currently my game play is focusing on Gyms and getting high IV/CP pokemon to hold those Gyms. I try to hold only about 15 gyms because I don’t want to be greedy. This lets me collect my 100 coins each day and since I lose about 1-2 gyms a day it gives me something to do each day, otherwise there wouldn’t be much else for me to do in this game. Below is a list of issues I currently have with the gym gameplay: 1. Gym Cannibalism – Just like in a recent post, In my opinion this is biggest problem with the current gym system. I didn’t realize how much of a problem this was until my gf started getting to the gym business. I always had Pokémon in the top 5, but because of her lower level she would always be at the bottom. We would always get her to 10 gyms but by the next day she would be to about half while I was still on those same gyms she just lost. I find this extremely frustrating and un-sportsmen like. It’s gotten to the point where in my area even I can be cannibalized off a gym with a 2.8k snorlax.Solution/Suggestion: I’ve heard a few solutions, without completely overhauling the whole gyms system, but the best one I’ve heard was within a comment from the post I mentioned above. Asymmetrical gyms make sense to me and would make cannibalism take longer and more annoying. 2. Friendly Gym Snipers – This one is annoying, disheartening and most enraging things in this game. This has happened to me 4 times when I was prestiging a gym from 9-10. There is literally nothing you can do about it, from the time of the death animation to then the gym level up animation, the sniper has all the time in the world. There was this one time I was about to train a gym from 49k to 50k when another trainer rolled up to the gym. I literally sat there for 20min neither of us making a move until he realized I wasn’t going to budge and just drove off.Solution/Suggestion: Just like when they fixed empty gym sniping, give priority first to the people that trained the gym. Even better if they give staggered priority to those that trained it the most. This way if a trainer trained it from 42k-49k and then someone rolls up and just trained it from 49k-50k, the trainer that trained it 7k gets first priority, then the 1k trainer and lastly anyone else. 3. Stagnant Meta – We’ve had about two meta changes since the start of the game. We are tired of seeing the same Pokémon at gyms. Like in every other game, metas will always define the best characters/strategies in a game. Other games keep their game feeling fresh by making periodic changes, whether it would be through adding characters or changing current characters. E.G. Hearthstone introduces new cards or make changes to their current cards, DOTA2/League of Legends will change a characters stats or abilities.Solution/Suggestion: Change the meta more often. Do longer than two week events that will buff different type of Pokémon or maybe introduce seasons in where certain pokemon get buffs. E.g. During winter ice, water, … get buffs. During summer fire, ground, … get buffs. This would ensure that at least 4 times a year there would be a meta change. I would love to see Scythers or Onixs on top of gyms. (And yes, I know that not everyone has winter, spring, summer fall at the same time) If you guys have any other issues with the current gym system, not including bugs, or have your own opinion with the issues I’ve stated above, I’d like to hear your inputs. Also I’ve read through this post multiple times, but I have dyslexia and don’t always catch all the spelling/grammar errors. So sorry for any I have missed.*Edit - Spelling/Grammar via /r/TheSilphRoad http://ift.tt/2jDTkW2
