"Let's clear up the Exp. Share and how it interacts with Lucky Eggs and EV's in Sun/Moon"

I've seen a lot of conflicting information about what does and doesn't work when combining things with Exp Share, so I did some tests myself to find out how they work. This information is relevant to Sun/Moon and may not be the case in X/Y or OR/AS.There's a tl;dr at the bottom if you prefer. :P  How does the Exp. Share work exactly?: A simple test was done to be completely sure of this. I took 2 Lv.34 Druddigons and fought 2 Level 27 Fearows, one with Exp. Share and one without. Druddigon B earned exactly half the experience of Druddigon A. With experience share off, Druddigon A still earned the same experience. Thus, experience share allows your lead Pokemon still to receive 100% of its experience while also giving 50% to your party Pokemon. Exp. Share also passes on EV's, but how many EV's are passed is a little more complex, so I've covered it further below.EDIT: The 50% experience your party get reflect 50% of what they would get if they were the lead Pokemon the whole time. Thus, a Lv. 99 fighting a Lv. 1 Rattata with a Lv.1 Druddigon in your party, the Druddigon earns exactly half of what it would if it fought the battle, rather than getting half of what the Lv.99 earns (much less)  Lucky Eggs To test Lucky Eggs, I used ambush encounters with Fearows on Route 10 (Ula'ula) that were always level 27. I brought along a Lv. 55 Smeargle and 2 different Lv. 1 Druddigons. Let's call them A and B. Smeargle is the only Pokemon that participates in battles, and I soft reset between tests.First, I tried no lucky egg at all, to see how much they grew from this battle naturally. PokémonNew LevelExp LeftLucky EggSmeargle55772XDruddigon A11189XDruddigon B11189X Ok, good. Next, let's see what happens if Druddigon A is holding a lucky egg, but Smeargle still does all of the battling. PokémonNew LevelExp LeftLucky EggSmeargle55772XDruddigon A13436✓Druddigon B11189X Result: The Lucky egg does work if a Pokemon does not participate in a battle but receives experience from Exp Share. Neat! It should be noted that exp share needs to be on to get a bonus from the lucky egg this way.Next, let's try putting a lucky egg only on Smeargle, our lead Pokemon. PokémonNew LevelExp LeftLucky EggSmeargle55603✓Druddigon A11189XDruddigon B11189X Result: While the Lucky Egg does give bonus exp to the lead Pokemon, it does not give bonus experience to party Pokemon if your lead Pokemon is holding it.Next, just to be sure, I put a lucky egg on both Smeargle and Druddigon A. PokémonNew LevelExp LeftLucky EggSmeargle55603✓Druddigon A13436✓Druddigon B11189X Result: The lead Pokemon benefits from their held lucky egg, and the party Pokemon receives a benefit from their own lucky egg, but they do not share any benefits to each other.  EV Training Now, using 3 Druddigons (A, B, and C), let's see how EV's are passed with experience share! I will be using the same Pokemoon, Fearow, but their levels are now irrelevant, as levels do not affect EV gain. In every test, 3 SOS'd Fearow's will be KO'd, following by fleeing the battle.Fearow always gives 2 Speed EVs. When Pokemon call for help (called SOS), the Pokemon they call always gives double EV's. This doesn't keep scaling up as more Pokemon are called, you get the same bonus for all called Pokemon. EDIT: The original Pokemon does give this bonus after calling an ally. With that in mind, let's see what happens when we KO 3 SOS'd Fearows with Druddigon A. PokémonEV's GainedPower ItemPokerusDruddigon A12XXDruddigon B12XXDruddigon C12XX Ok, so EV's are equally distributed to all Pokemon with experience share, even if they don't participate. Now what happens if the lead Pokemon is holding a Power item? In this case, let's use a Power Anklet. This particular power item gives you an additional 8 speed EVs regardless of what Pokemon you KO. But since we're fighting Fearows that give speed EV's already, and the SOS'd ones give double EV's, we're going to be seeing a bigger speed increase. But will the other Pokemon get the bonus as well? Let's find out. PokémonEV's GainedPower ItemPokerusDruddigon A60✓XDruddigon B12XXDruddigon C12XX Ok, so we learned the bonus from Power items only works on the Pokemon holding it. But you might be wondering, "Why did Druddigon A earn so much, even with the power item?" Well, the EV's the Pokemon gives, in this case 2, are added together with the 8 the power item gives, and then doubled with the multiplicative SOS bonus, which always happens last. Neat! And then we have Pokerus. Similar to the SOS bonus, it doubles EV's gained after calculating EV's the Pokemon gives + Power item EV's. This time, let's stack Pokerus and a power item on the lead Pokemon and see what happens. PokémonEV's GainedPower ItemPokerusDruddigon A120✓✓Druddigon B12XXDruddigon C12XX Sadly, once again, we see that Druddigon B and C did not gain any bonus. That means both the bonus from Power items and Pokerus will not pass from a lead Pokemon to others. You might be thinking, "Wow, Druddigon A got a ton of EV's with little effort!" That's because the EV's from Fearow (2) were added with the EVs from the power item (8), and then were doubled by Pokerus, and then doubled again by the SOS bonus. Thus, Druddigon A received 40 EVs per SOS Fearow. That means KO'ing 7 SOS Fearows is enough to max your speed EV out at 252.EDIT: I originally made a mistake here, and I'm now able to correct it. After a Pokemon successfully calls for another Pokemon to turn it into an SOS battle, even the original Pokemon gives the SOS bonus of x2 EV's. Thanks, /u/Adventure_Agreed!Finally, let's do one last bonus test, this time leading with a regular Druddigon, with a Druddigon with Pokerus as well as a Druddigon holding a power anklet in reserve. PokémonEV's GainedPower ItemPokerusDruddigon A12XXDruddigon B24X✓Druddigon C60✓X As we can see, Pokerus and the Power item both worked on the reserve Pokemon that had them. Of course, they work only if exp share is on to begin with. Druddigon B received double EV's from Pokerus, followed by double from the SOS bonus, getting 8 from each Fearow. Druddigon C, however, recieved an additional 8 from the power item, and then was doubled to make 20 from each Fearow. I really hope this information helps someone.Very special thanks to: /u/Adventure_Agreed for correcting a big mistake I made, /u/Chloroform_Panties for info on exp share's shared 50%, Xeroth for lending me a 2nd lucky egg, a certain Redditor for kindly teaching me how to use tables, and the Druddigons that endured soft reset after soft reset to get these results.  tl;dr: Lucky Egg: ONLY works on the Pokemon holding it. Lead Pokemon holding it will NOT pass an extra bonus onto other party members. However, with Exp. Share on, any party member holding one that does not participate in the battle WILL get the bonus.Power Items: Same as Lucky Egg above.Pokerus: Same as Lucky Egg, but rather than holding an item, the Pokemon either needs to have active Pokerus, or Inactive Pokerus (The unspreadable kind, displayed as a little pink smiley face in your Pokemon's status). What DOES spread with Exp. Share?: 50% of the experience that the reserve Pokemon would have earned if it was the lead, and EV's that your lead Pokemon earn, plus the x2 SOS bonus, only. Pokerus and Power Items do not spread to others, only the holder. via /r/pokemon http://ift.tt/2lwxHZW
