"How is the "recommended list of pokemons" generated when entering a gym fight?"

#PokemonGO: When I want to attack/prestige a gym, there is a set of pokemons that the game chooses automatically for me.Sometimes, it can be really low CP pokemons that have some type advantage. I understand that low CP pokemons increase the amount of prestige points so it makes sense for the game to choose as low CP mons as possible.I was wondering if this set of pokemons isalways close to optimal in terms of maxmizing prestige points?
