"Water Nests are now Re-Enabled on the Atlas! Plus, an update on v0.59.2's APK + Gamemaster, and TSR's values."
#PokemonGO: Hope your Water Festival was a good one, travelers! A few updates from the Silph Road team:The Nest AtlasWe've now re-enabled water nest reporting on the Atlas! It's a nuisance having to prevent valid reports from our more experienced travelers, but we have nearly 50,000 active contributors (and millions of lurkers) on the Atlas - many of which never read the Road's subreddit and have a very rudimentary understanding of spawn mechanics. So, thank you for your patience! We know it's hard to sit on a valid intel for a few extra days. But the wait is over! Those with Magikarp nests now have a particularly cushy setup this Migration - let us know if you have one so we can continue our hunt for our golden fish! :)The v0.59.2 APK and GAME_MASTER FileWe've already taken a look through the latest APK and the only substantive additions in the code are 2 new sponsor types (bringing the total to 22): SALAMANDER and PLANCHA.The GAME_MASTER has no changes. So, don't worry, iOS travelers - you're not missing out on much. :)At this point, we're unsure what's changed in this version - but it appears to be minor.TSR's Culture and /newOne more note I want to make sure we re-emphasize. :)After thousands of new faces joined us a few weeks ago (welcome!), we unfortunately saw a steep increase in snark and rudeness in /new, travelers. I received countless PMs from folks new to Reddit and the Road who had a bad experience asking a question on our subreddit. They experienced snarky, elitist comments like "we've known this forever," "use the search." and "RNG."While those answers are 'technically' correct, they're also rude, condescending, and not what we're about here. The Road is a place to learn and help others learn - and we keep things friendly and courteous here. It's one of the main reasons we founded the Silph Road over a year ago, and it will remain a core value of this community.A word to our knowledgeable veterans: If you find your patience wearing thin with new folks' questions, don't hang out in /new!/new is a place where new faces often come for help. They often don't even know we have a search bar, or how to browse /new before posting. Not to mention, Reddit's search function is ... the worst. And that's ok! Hundreds of new folks join TSR every day! If you'd like to help them get up to speed, try answering a few questions in /new. It can be a very rewarding part of this community. But if you're frustrated by newbies, ...don't!But won't the sub be flooded with repeat questions?Nope! This is how we've always operated. If you park your car in /new and refresh it all day, then yes, you'll see many duplicate questions from new folks. But the Silph Road team removes most of these questions once they've received a satisfactory answer. These simple questions don't make it to our front page. But isn't TSR only about research?Nope! TSR has three main objectives, and they're visible in our sidebar. This is a community - not a peer-reviewed journal. We welcome many types of content here, but we keep a focus on our stated goals.Parting WordsI want to thank the countless knowledgeable travelers who have donated time helping travelers new to the Road learn and get answers to their questions. This is one of the best parts of this game - the community that grows around it.As long as I'm Executive Dronpes, the Road will continue to be a place for learning and help - and a friendly and courteous place to enjoy the game together. It's not an easy thing, building a positive and constructive game community, but I've been deeply proud of how far the Silph Road has come - and our future is very bright yet. :)Travel safe,- Executive Dronpes - via /r/TheSilphRoad http://ift.tt/2nkre54
