"100% IV Pokemon Are Overrated"
#PokemonGO: this post is mostly made in the spirit of putting the quest for perfect ivs into perspective.i've lately spent a lot of time digging into the math of pogo. more specifically, calculations of cp and what cp means in the broader sense of the pokemon population as a whole. the online iv calculators do a good job of telling a player how good his or her pokemon is, but do not do much in terms of telling a player how good his or her pokemon is compared to other pokemon. the way i see it, more important than cp is percentile. how well does yours stack up against all others of its species? how well does it stack up against all other pokemon? with some powering up, what is its true full potential?not including move sets, there are 80,896,000 possible pokemon. that's a big number, but it's finite. that means there are about 8,090 pokemon in the top 0.01th percentile. but which pokemon? i have not yet made a full list of the 80,896,000 possible pokemon to figure that out, but i have examined dragonite (of which there are 323,584) as a case study. below, i have ranked the top 0.01th percentile of dragonites by cp:#33 LVL 40.0: 3541 CP/153 HP (A14/D15/H12 91.11%) #32 LVL 40.0: 3542 CP/154 HP (A14/D14/H13 91.11%) #31 LVL 39.5: 3543 CP/155 HP (A14/D15/H15 97.78%) #30 LVL 40.0: 3543 CP/155 HP (A12/D15/H15 93.33%) #29 LVL 40.0: 3543 CP/155 HP (A14/D12/H15 91.11%) #28 LVL 40.0: 3543 CP/154 HP (A14/D13/H14 91.11%) #27 LVL 40.0: 3545 CP/152 HP (A15/D15/H11 91.11%) #26 LVL 40.0: 3546 CP/154 HP (A13/D15/H14 93.33%) #25 LVL 40.0: 3546 CP/154 HP (A15/D13/H13 91.11%) #24 LVL 40.0: 3546 CP/153 HP (A15/D14/H12 91.11%) #23 LVL 39.5: 3547 CP/155 HP (A15/D14/H15 97.78%) #22 LVL 39.5: 3547 CP/154 HP (A15/D15/H14 97.78%) #21 LVL 40.0: 3547 CP/155 HP (A13/D14/H15 93.33%) #20 LVL 40.0: 3547 CP/154 HP (A15/D12/H14 91.11%) #19 LVL 40.0: 3548 CP/155 HP (A15/D11/H15 91.11%) #18 LVL 40.0: 3550 CP/154 HP (A14/D15/H13 93.33%) #17 LVL 40.0: 3551 CP/154 HP (A14/D14/H14 93.33%) #16 LVL 40.0: 3552 CP/155 HP (A14/D13/H15 93.33%) #15 LVL 40.0: 3554 CP/153 HP (A15/D15/H12 93.33%) #14 LVL 40.0: 3555 CP/155 HP (A13/D15/H15 95.56%) #13 LVL 40.0: 3555 CP/154 HP (A15/D14/H13 93.33%) #12 LVL 39.5: 3556 CP/155 HP (A15/D15/H15 100.00%) #11 LVL 40.0: 3556 CP/155 HP (A15/D12/H15 93.33%) #10 LVL 40.0: 3556 CP/154 HP (A15/D13/H14 93.33%) #9 LVL 40.0: 3559 CP/154 HP (A14/D15/H14 95.56%) #8 LVL 40.0: 3560 CP/155 HP (A14/D14/H15 95.56%) #7 LVL 40.0: 3563 CP/154 HP (A15/D15/H13 95.56%) #6 LVL 40.0: 3564 CP/154 HP (A15/D14/H14 95.56%) #5 LVL 40.0: 3565 CP/155 HP (A15/D13/H15 95.56%) #4 LVL 40.0: 3568 CP/155 HP (A14/D15/H15 97.78%) #3 LVL 40.0: 3572 CP/154 HP (A15/D15/H14 97.78%) #2 LVL 40.0: 3573 CP/155 HP (A15/D14/H15 97.78%) #1 LVL 40.0: 3581 CP/155 HP (A15/D15/H15 100.00%) as you can see, one can have a 1 in 10,000 dragonite by cp with an iv % of as low as 91.11% or 41/45. an average level 40 dragonite with all ivs of at least 7 or 8 will have a cp of at least 3,360 and an hp of at least 150 -- not very far off the max in the grand scheme of things -- and will still have a higher cp than just about every other pokemon out there. (the reason being is that ivs have less of an influence on cp as base stats increase.) the reason i point this out is because i have been trying to justify to myself that the quest for perfection, although fun, may get in the way of the spirit of the game. we play this game on a local level. one can very easily have the best pokemon in an area without having the best ivs.in conclusion, don't let perfect be the enemy of good, because a good enough pokemon (especially with a type matched move set and a skilled battle finger) can oftentimes be indistinguishable from and even superior to a perfect pokemon. via /r/pokemongo http://ift.tt/2phXZ7m
