"Regarding complaints about 10k eggs post-Gen 2: an analysis on the perception of RNG"
#PokemonGO: I've been seeing a lot of complaints about how "bad" 10km hatches have been since the release of Gen 2. I'd like to share my thoughts.10k eggs (as with all eggs) get less and less valuable as one registers more Pokémon. This probably goes without saying, but I'm not sure people realize. The point being, what people think of as a "good" Pokémon really is just one that fits their standards. Like sure, Mantine isn't that rare. But to be honest, they're about as common as Dratini, at least in my area, with the main difference being that Dratini evolves twice and into a pseudo-legendary. Sure, one can argue that it's a big difference. But had it not been for the water festival, I'd still need a Mantine. And yeah, most people will agree that Pokémon like Sudowoodo shouldn't really be in 10k eggs. But some will argue that it's a good prestiger. A lot of people complain about how many Pineco there are in 10ks, but I still need a Forretress. But nobody's exactly swimming in Pineco (and it doesn't nest). I personally would be happy to hatch a Pineco for the time being. But once I have enough candy, it loses relevance.Think of it this way: when Gen 2 released, a lot of us caught every new Pokémon there was. People generally ignore Pokémon like Rattata and Pidgey now (save for mass evolution) because they already have them and all their evolutions. And as time goes on, we ignore more and more of those who spawn, because they lose relevance. Same is true for Pineco, for Sudowoodo, for Mantine, for Snorlax even. If you don't have one, you'll be glad to get one. Because it's a new Pokémon. Once this is no longer the case, it's just another Pokémon that could've been some Pokémon you don't have. Every post and every comment I've seen related to some dude hatching a Snorlax has been positive. After catching 5 and hatching 2, I just get annoyed now. It's like when we were all catching Pidgeys for the Egg event and kept running into Dittos and growing frustrated because I have eight already I don't need any more. Stark contrast from Thanksgiving when they were released - we were catching Pidgeys for the Dittos. So no, RNGesus doesn't hate you; you just have too many Pokémon for the odds to favor you. via /r/TheSilphRoad http://ift.tt/2pH1Taf
