#PokemonGO: That "useless" 100% or >90% IV Pokemon that you are disappointed with may be useful in the future, and that's through breeding.Breeding in Pokemon is done through egg groups and is not limited to the same species, as shown by the image. So that 100% Gyarados with Bite and Twister you got on the first month of playing may actually become a very valuable breeding tool as the Magikarp family belong to the dragon egg group as well as the water 2 egg group. For example in the main game series my most valuable Pokemon was a Male Ekans with 100% 6 out of 6 IV (modern mainstream Pokemon games have 6 IVs). As Ekans belongs to the field egg group which contains 218 Pokemon that means it is able to breed with 218 other Pokemon potentially passing on its IVs. Additionally Ekans belongs to the Dragon Egg group, meaning I can also potentially pass on these IVs to dragon Pokemon such as Dratini. It is also important to understand how breeding works and the basics are as follows; - You need two Pokemon from the same egg group, if they match in one of their egg groups they will produce an egg.IVs are passed down from the parents to the child, in the main game series this can be manipulated to ensure 5/6 IVs are passed to their offspring (Pokemon Go only has 3 IV categories)The egg produced will be the same species as the mother. E.g A Male Ekans breeding with a Female Dratini makes a Dratini egg (50/50 chance of the egg hatched being Male or Female). This does not mean non viable Females are useless just breed until a Male is hatched with the same IVs (every Pokemon has a gender ratio, so make sure you check it, Chansey for example is 100% Female so you will never hatch a Male Chansey).Additionally, this probably won't be implemented in Pokemon Go, but Males are able to pass down moves to the egg. Some Pokemon do not have genders and cannot breed e.g Most Legendary Pokemon. The holy grail is Ditto, Ditto can breed with everything that is capable of breeding, if you get a 100% IV ditto you are set for life.I hope that some of you out there sitting on a 100% IV are now happier knowing that if breeding is released it will be a valuable Pokemon.TLDR; Pokemon do not have to breed with Identical species. Keep all of your high IV Pokemon even if they are not gym viable as it may belong to an egg group containing viable Pokemon.
