"As someone who has been collecting 100 coins a day, I have to say that the new system of 1 coin every ten minutes and a 50 coin a day maximum is much better."

#PokemonGO: or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the BerriesAs an Instinct player, staying in 10 gyms a day was a lot of work. A monotonous, low-paying, second job that I cursed every day. But I did it because I wanted incubators, so I could hatch 10K eggs, so I could get rare Pokemon candy, so I could power up my mons, so I could stay atop gyms, so I could get more incubators. That's all the grind was really for: Candy. And because, really, what else is there to do once you're at the top? It was the only way to "advance".This new system is so much better. Now I can enjoy playing in the gym for a bit, make my nut, and then let someone else have a turn. You can get rare mon and candy from raids, so you don't need to rely on incubators so much. Raids are more fun than incubators anyway, and you know exactly what your reward is going to be. Every time I hatched a Mantine, and thought about how much effort I was putting into getting those coins, my first thought was "I'm wasting my life". Say what you will about Sudowoodo, at least he never caused an existential crisis. You now get candy and stardust from feeding berries at friendly gyms. Berries are free, and farming berries to feed to your teammates is more rewarding than continually prestiging the same mon for months to maybe eventually hatch a Chansey. Even if it takes 200 berries per candy, at least you have some control over where you are putting your effort. And again, if you can get candy and dust from friendly gyms, you don't need incubators as much, so you don't really need coins as much. Now coins can be a nice bonus, not my reason for playing.I don't have to curse my teammates when I see a full gym. Instead I can get bonus items and feed them berries for a chance at that sweet candy. As a solo player, my teammates were also my enemy, because they were taking up the most valuable resource: space in a gym. And there's only room for ten of us. Now we can actually help each other out, especially lower level players. We can all share a few gyms and still get the maximum income. There's still benefits for maintaining area dominance, since you get rewards from friendly gyms (and we don't even know yet how extensive these rewards might be with higher level badges). And you get extra premier balls if a friendly gym gets a raid. But there's no reason to make sure you are personally in ALL THE GYMS!, 24 hours a day. Or to make sure no one else infringes on your turf (you'll need someone to refresh your gyms to collect any coins at all). Or to extend yourself outside of your local neighborhood. Get a couple gyms, hold them for a while, then relax. You can take another one if you need to... there's no more 10 Blissey towers. If you were at the top of the gym game before, you'll still be at the top of the gym game now. It's just easier. And if you were one of the people who relied on sitting in a ton of gyms for weeks on end, raking in daily coins with no effort... it was good while it lasted, be glad that you got that early advantage, but you're going to have to actually play the game if you want to get the rewards. Sitting in gyms for weeks is worthless now, thank goodness. You had to know that wasn't what the game was supposed to be. You were gaming the the game, not playing it.Change is hard, and this is literally a game changer. My first reaction was to try and figure out how to maximize my coin income. When I couldn't figure out how to do that, I was kind of relieved. I'm level 37, my regional dex is recently complete. The only reason I was doing the gym grind was because that's really all there was left to do. I'm so glad I get to quit that crappy job. I think the game is going to be much more fun now, going out to visit friendly gyms and feeding treats. And taking down a couple of gyms if I want. Investing in Pokemon that I actually like, instead of just the highest CP ones (I still love you, Snorlax). Developing my best army, not a legion of cannon-fodder prestigers. Getting to show off my Amphoros (and sharing his candy with my teammates) without worrying that he's just going to get shaved out in an hour and I'll lose those precious coins. This update and these changes fix so many of the problems we've been complaining about in gyms for so long. Are people going to be spoofing and multi-accounting and shaving gyms when there's really no incentive left to do so? Well, yes some people will, but it's not going to be as rampant, or as effective. I don't think the territory-defense aspect was ever really a good fit, and it certainly wasn't fun for the vast majority of people. Even those of us that were "winning" it. Personally, I'm glad it's not going to be rewarded any more. You're still rewarded for taking and holding down a few gyms for a time, but not for locking everyone else out of the game for days or weeks. If you really love it, you can even still try to dominate your territory. You just aren't going to get coins for it. You'll get extra items and candy instead. And wasn't that what the coins were for? There's still tweaks to be made, and it'll take some time to adjust, but overall these changes are so much better for the game and for the community. The system of needing to hold 10 gyms for 21 hours to be "the best" ended up being absolutely toxic. I'll gladly trade 50 coins a day to be rid of it. It's hard when you've spent so much time and effort to master one set of rules, only to have them changed out from under you. And especially hard when you get something taken away from you that you feel you deserve. But I honestly think these are better rules, and I'm really looking forward to figuring out this new game. via /r/TheSilphRoad http://ift.tt/2t57RDe
