"Calling it now: US/UM will have Gyms."

In Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon, the Pokémon League has just set up shop in the Alola region, as the player character is the first Pokémon League Champion of Alola, and the Elite Four building has just been built. Plus, the 8 empty plots of land with some building materials laying around spread throughout various cities in Alola hint towards the future construction of Gyms. Maybe in this alternate story the gyms have already been built, and the Trial Captains serve as the Gym Leaders.
