"[Idea]: Pokestops Automatically Placed Along Known Walking/Hikes Paths at Regular Intervals"

#PokemonGO: TL;DR - Niantic should take advantage of the work already done by Google maps to place stops/gyms/portals at regular intervals along known walking/hiking/biking paths rather than exclusively tying them to landmarks.Like everyone else, this summer I am feeling particularly excited about the new gym system and raid features. I know that Niantic put a lot of thought and resources into developing these changes, and I am grateful. Still, it's frustrating that these improvements remain, if not irrelevant, certainly not particularly game changing for players in rural areas. I am spending the summer in a small town, which has made me more aware of the problem of scarcity of stops/gyms than I have been in the past. Outside of the town itself, there is miles and miles of absolutely nothing. This is a problem unlikely to be fixed by the ingress portal review process, even were the backlog to be cleared, or even were Niantic to open up submission and review to high level pogo players. Yes, in this small town, I have spotted a lot of historical landmarks that could eventually be submitted as stops. However, this doesn't solve the problem for the vast open spaces of houses and nature around the town. This is because in these areas there are often very large stretches of land without locations that I think would be deemed acceptable as a portal/stop/gym.I have been trying to think, instead, of options to increase stop frequency using readily available resources rather than relying on one to one submission and approval. This is what I have come up with. I think that along established walking/hiking/biking trails, there should be pokestops/gyms every 1/4 of a mile or so. These would work like trail markers or mileage sign posts. They wouldn't be tied to a specific landmark, but rather would occur at a regular interval along the established path. Over time, these paths could be submitted and reviewed by users. But in the short term, Google has already begun this process. Google maps already has extensively marked out walking/hiking/biking trails. We know Niantic has worked in collaboration with Google in the past, and I think this could be a good way to expedite the process of creating more stops without having to move at a one by one pace. Plus, it would open up large stretches of currently ineligible space to be populated by stops. An example: there is a lovely lake near my house. It takes a little over a mile to walk the established path around it. There are currently two pokestops on the lake, one on either far end, associated with informational placards. What if, instead, there were simply one pokestop every .2 or .25 miles along the walk?Added bonus: this strategy would help encourage the kind of adventurous outdoor spirit pogo has intended to support all along. I know many of us imagined this game involving long treks in the woods rather than a walk around a city block. What do you think? Are there other kinds of known resources that Niantic could take advantage of to spread the pokestop wealth? Do you think that working on the basis of a regular interval rather than a landmark would be possible? via /r/TheSilphRoad http://ift.tt/2uE3OeJ
