"Request: evidence of raid boss fleeing before all balls used"

#PokemonGO: Having battled through 50 or so raid bosses, I have not encountered a raid boss fleeing before all balls are used, nor have I met anyone who has had this happen to them. And yet, I see people reporting such occurences here on Reddit.Personally, I chalk this up to people losing track of how many balls they have left, or perhaps even network errors, but let's prove or disprove this once and for all.
