"Did Gamefreak ditch gender differences?"

Gender differences were introduced in gen 4 and personally I think they are a nice addition to make the pokemon seem more alive. It adds to diversity and all that.But since then they have become less and less used. Gen 5 only introduced 3 pokemon with gender differences (2 of which are from the same evolutionary family). Then gen 6 introduced only 2, one of which is Meowstic which is more of a gimmick. Then in gen 7 we got no pokemon with gender differences. At all.Do you think they ditched this idea?
