"Things to remember when portal submissions re-open."
#PokemonGO: So as we all know Ingress will soonTM be re-opening portal submissions, now for those who dont know Ingress was Niantic's first major game release and it basically what pokemon go was built on, chances are if you download & open ingress you will see near you a colored portal (blue, green or white) right where you would see a pokestop or gym in PoGO.How does this effect PoGO?Any new portals added in ingress have a chance to appear in PoGo, some users have reported that they had new pokestop / gym within 2 weeks of it being added to ingress and others have noticed there are portals in ingress which have never appeared in PoGo.Great now how do I add a portal? We dont know 100% yet but you will have to download and play ingress and it the submissions work like last time you will have to be at least level 8 (this has been compared as going from 1-20 in PoGo).If however you are level 8 or above then the last time portal submissions worked you had to:Long press on the area the portal should be placed & scroll to the right and select "New portal".Your camera will now open & you should now take a clear picture of the submission. You will then be asked to provide a name & description, once that is done press submit.Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5nghArkMqqAIt is important to remember that Niantic has very strict criteria when submitting new portals:A LOCATION WITH A COOL STORY, A PLACE IN HISTORY OR EDUCATIONAL VALUEInteresting story behind the location/objectHistorical significance (apart from just being old)A COOL PIECE OF ART OR UNIQUE ARCHITECTUREStatues, paintings, mosaics, light installations, etc.Venues that showcase fine art (e.g., performance art theaters and museums)Buildings designed by renowned architects/structures famous specifically for their architectureA HIDDEN GEM OR HYPER-LOCAL SPOTA popular local spot that you would take a friend visiting your community for the first timeA popular spot where locals gather, but may be lesser-known outside the communityTourist spots that showcase local flavor and culture and that make your city/neighborhood uniqueMore off-the-beaten-path tourist attractions (i.e., if you weren’t a local, you wouldn’t necessarily know to go here)Adventurous tourist attractions – think lookout towers, observatories, signs or markers atop >?>mountain peaks, etc.In addition to the above acceptance criteria there is also a desire to have candidates that offer an acknowledgement or networking opportunity. These include:PUBLIC LIBRARIESA nod to education and discovery, cornerstones of Niantic & IngressIncludes little free libraries, provided they are not on private residential property; does not include >mobile librariesPUBLIC PLACES OF WORSHIPA nod to the otherworldly, which is integral to the story of IngressThe Portal submission should NOT be or include any of the following:Candidates in locations with NO SAFE PEDESTRIAN ACCESS.Candidates of PEOPLE, BODY PARTS, LIVE ANIMALS, etc.; please, just don’t.Candidates that are NATURAL FEATURES (Includes pictures of landscapes as well as submissions where the subject is a lake, river, stream, mountain, volcano, waterfall, etc.; does not include man-made points of interest – plaques, signs, etc. – near natural features).Candidates that are NOT PERMANENT, including SEASONAL DISPLAYS that are only put up during certain times of the year.Candidates submitted with a PHOTO THAT YOU DID NOT TAKE YOURSELF (i.e., pulled from a third-party source); these will be rejected even if the candidate itself meets acceptance criteria or is on the list of things we generally accept.Candidates on PRIVATE RESIDENTIAL PROPERTY (including farms)Candidates that may interfere with the operations of FIRE STATIONS, POLICE STATIONS AND HOSPITALS Candidates on the grounds of PRIMARY/SECONDARY SCHOOLSHow do I give my submission the best chance to be accepted ?The best way you can do this is to take a clear photo, include an accurate title and include some description. One thing to double check is make 100% sure the pin where you long pressed is in the correct location, if it is not & Niantic things you are trying to set a portal in your backyard it will be rejected and you could be banned from providing future submissions.I have sent a submission now what?As long as you have an e-mail from Niantic in the account you used to log-into Ingress you should be good to go now its just a question of waiting.TL;DR If you want to submit new portals get to level 8 in Ingressside-note: Please be aware and respectful of other players when playing Ingress, most of the people around me are happy to help new people as long as you are willing to learn. If its just a question of "Get me leveled up so I can get what I want" then its probably not in your best interest to play Ingress as there is a LOT to learn. via /r/TheSilphRoad http://ift.tt/2xdYBye
