"[Discussion] How Niantic Could Stagger Shinies While Keeping Our Interest"
#PokemonGO: More shiny Pokémon is one thing that we can all agree we want. For some reason, Niantic has hugely limited the release of shinies with just three shiny families currently available (Magikarp, Pikachu, and Sableye). Most people assume this slow release is to extend content releases so they can keep people interested for longer but, at least for me, the limited shinies barely gets me interested in grinding them and, most importantly for Niantic, doesn't influence me to spend money. I would be much more interested in grinding for shinies if there were many available species even if the odds were lower than the assumed 1/512 that we have now. Niantic could even make eggs, raids, lures, and incense be more likely to spawn a shiny to boost sales. The question is how could they release shinies in a staggered way, but while releasing enough to keep our interest? I think the simple answer is events: release several shinies during events and then keep them in the game afterwards. In my ideas below, I show how Niantic could release several Gen 1 shinies during upcoming events in a way that makes players happy, but still leaves many shinies to be released later. If we assume Niantic does the same events they did in the first year of Pokémon Go, the next event (assuming they don’t surprise us with more shinies during the current Halloween event) would be Thanksgiving. Since this event didn’t spawn any species or types with added frequency, the double XP and double dust (again assuming it works the same as last year) would make for a great time to drop the shiny common Gen 1 Pokémon.NumberPokemon10Caterpie11Metapod12Butterfree13Weedle14Kakuna15Beedrill16Pidgey17Pidgeotto18Pidgeot19Rattata20RaticateNext up will be the Holiday and New Year’s event. For New Year’s last time, they increased starter spawns. If we keep to just the Gen 1 shinies, this adds nine new shiny Pokémon:NumberPokemon1Bulbasaur2Ivysaur3Venusaur4Charmander5Charmeleon6Charizard7Squirtle8Wartortle9BlastoiseConclusion If Niantic continues to add 3-5 families of shiny Pokémon per event, it would take them over a year just to finish Gen 1, so they won’t be in any danger of running out of content. Furthermore, they won’t have the huge amount of graphics work that would come with releasing all shinies at once. Increasing shiny odds from eggs, raids, incense, and lures would also boost sales from Niantic’s perspective. via /r/pokemongo http://ift.tt/2xjKpRd
